Millions of candidates complete procedures, start 2024 high school graduation exam

At Viet Duc High School ( Hanoi ), candidates started arriving at 1:00 p.m. to prepare for the 2024 high school graduation exam.

Nguyen Quang Vu - a 12th grade physics student at the National University of Education High School for the Gifted is one of the first candidates to arrive at the Luong The Vinh exam site. He arrived at 12 noon.

“This year I want to apply to Hanoi University of Pharmacy. Besides, I also want to apply to Hanoi University of Science and Technology and Foreign Trade University.

The most important thing is to pass the minimum score of these schools. I don't put too much emphasis on getting a high score, the important thing is that I will try my best," Vu shared.

From 1 p.m., the exam site of Luong The Vinh Secondary and High School has gathered a large number of candidates waiting for the time to complete procedures for the 2024 high school graduation exam.

Candidates bring their exam papers and notes, and take advantage of the opportunity to review as there are less than 24 hours left before the first exam begins.

The students wore uniforms and neat clothes, showing a serious spirit before the important exam after 12 years of studying.

Tran Nhat Minh, a student at the Foreign Language High School, also said he was quite relaxed before the exam because he only needed to meet the required score. Minh was admitted to the Foreign Trade University in Hanoi thanks to his SAT score of 1450 combined with an IELTS certificate of 7.5.

This year, Luong The Vinh exam site has 31 main exam rooms, 2 backup exam rooms and 744 candidates, with no candidates needing special support up to now.

Mr. Hoang Khoi Lai, Head of the examination site, said that all preparations for tomorrow's official examination have been completed in accordance with regulations. The examination site has two police officers and one security officer in the inner circle.

The outer ring has functional forces arranged by the district and ward. In exam room number 34, a candidate sat in the wrong exam room because he mixed up the numbers 34 and 43.

On this occasion, the supervisor reminded candidates to pay special attention to the exam room number, to avoid confusion between tomorrow's exam room and the exam room during the combined subject exam.

According to data from the Ministry of Education and Training , this year's high school graduation exam has 1,071,393 candidates registered, an increase of more than 45,000 compared to 2023. Of which, there are 46,978 independent candidates, accounting for 4.38%.

Nationwide, 2,323 exam sites were arranged, an increase of 51 sites compared to last year.

Hanoi continues to be the locality with the largest number of candidates taking the high school graduation exam with 109,078 candidates, 34 times more than Bac Kan.

The next 4 positions are Ho Chi Minh City (90,062), Thanh Hoa (38,775), Nghe An (37,044) and Dong Nai (34,088).

The objectives of this year’s high school graduation exam remain unchanged from previous years. The exam results serve the purpose of high school graduation, serve as a basis for university and college admissions, and assess the quality of management, teaching and learning at educational institutions.

With its important, complex and sensitive nature, the exam always receives great attention from society.

The exam takes place in late June and early July every year, when the weather in different regions of the country often changes in extreme directions: intense sunshine or thunderstorms and floods. This makes the organization of the exam face many challenges.

Responding to the press on June 24, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Pham Ngoc Thuong - Head of the National Steering Committee for the 2024 High School Graduation Exam - affirmed: The whole country has prepared carefully, proactively, fully, and is ready to organize the exam safely, seriously, in accordance with regulations and in practice.

The motto of the exam is for students, for students to take the exam, especially those in difficult circumstances, remote areas, so that no candidate can get to the exam site due to economic difficulties or transportation distance.

The Steering Committee for the 2024 High School Graduation Exam in localities thoroughly grasps the spirit of "4 Right - 3 No" during the organization of the exam.

4 Correct includes: Correct exam regulations and instructions; Correct and complete procedures; Correct assigned positions, responsibilities and tasks; Correct timing to promptly handle unusual situations and incidents.

3 Don'ts include: Don't be negligent or subjective; Don't be tense or overly pressured; Don't arbitrarily handle unusual situations or incidents.

Deputy Minister Thuong emphasized that all stages must be thoughtful and friendly between the staff serving the exam, and between teachers, staff and students so that students can have the most comfortable spirit and mindset when entering the exam room.
