Since the beginning of the pandemic, Vietnam has had 11,592,604 Covid-19 cases, ranking 13th out of 231 countries and territories, while with the rate of cases per 1 million people, Vietnam ranks 120th out of 231 countries and territories (on average, there are 117,152 cases per 1 million people).
Data reported daily by the Department of Health of provinces and cities on the Covid-19 management system of the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management, Ministry of Health shows that on May 15, 242 patients were announced to be cured, bringing the total number of cured cases to 10,632,576.
Among the cases being monitored and supervised, 76 are on oxygen therapy, of which 63 are on oxygen therapy via mask; 5 are on high-flow HFNC; 3 are on non-invasive ventilation; and 5 are on invasive ventilation.
No deaths were recorded on May 15. Over the past 7 days, an average of 1 death has been recorded; the total number of deaths due to Covid-19 in Vietnam to date is 43,201, accounting for 0.4% of the total number of cases.
Since mid-April 2023, Vietnam has recorded a number of deaths due to Covid-19. When reviewing and analyzing these cases, experts found that most of the deaths were high-risk patients, those with underlying diseases, elderly or with many comorbidities, and the patients themselves had serious conditions before; no deaths were recorded without underlying diseases.
On May 14, 11,406 doses of Covid-19 vaccine were injected. Thus, the total number of vaccine doses injected was 266,334,801 doses; of which, 223,690,523 doses were injected for people aged 18 and over: 70,908,838 doses for the first dose; 68,453,226 doses for the second dose; 14,343,927 doses for the supplementary dose; 52,121,680 doses for the first booster dose; 17,862,852 doses for the second booster dose.
Along with that, the vaccination for children from 12-17 years old is 23,965,543 doses: 1st dose is 9,130,889 doses; 2nd dose is 9,021,366 doses; 1st booster dose is 5,813,288 doses; vaccination for children from 5-11 years old is 18,678,735 doses: 1st dose is 10,220,643 doses; 2nd dose is 8,458,092 doses.
Given the recent developments in the number of Covid-19 cases in our country, which is still recording around 2,000 cases/day, Associate Professor, Dr. Duong Thi Hong, Deputy Director of the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology, recommends that people in high-risk groups such as those with underlying diseases, immunodeficiency... should proactively register for booster shots of Covid-19 vaccines according to instructions to prevent the disease. Even people who have contracted Covid-19 should continue to receive booster shots according to the instructions of the World Health Organization. At the same time, it is necessary to continue to maintain 2K, vaccines, treatment drugs, technology and people's awareness in preventing and fighting Covid-19 in the long term.
