At a working session in Mexico City between Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and a high-level US delegation led by White House Homeland Security Advisor Elizabeth Sherwood-Randall, the two sides agreed to address the root causes of the current painful migration problem.
In addition, Mexico and the United States discussed measures to prevent cross-border trafficking of synthetic drugs and weapons, arguing that this is the direct cause of the increasing and more serious crime rate and law violations.
Regarding the issue of synthetic drugs and weapons, it is expected that the three North American countries of Mexico, the United States and Canada will have a joint working session in the capital Mexico City to find ways to prevent and destroy criminal organizations that are believed to have taken deep roots in the three countries.
In late December 2023, Mexico and the United States agreed to establish a joint committee dedicated to addressing the issue of migrants, including regular bilateral meetings and regular contacts with officials from countries where migrants originate in Central and South America.
