(HNMO) - On May 21, the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management ( Ministry of Health ) issued Official Dispatch No. 616/KCB-QLCL&CĐT on heat prevention for patients and medical staff at medical examination and treatment facilities to the Directors of hospitals under the Ministry of Health and universities; Directors of Health Departments of provinces and centrally run cities and Heads of health of ministries and branches.
Accordingly, recently, the weather in many regions across the country has been hot and sunny, affecting people's lives and working environment.
To prevent and combat heatstroke for patients and medical staff, ensure safety and improve patient satisfaction, the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management (Ministry of Health) recommends that units prepare medicines, equipment, and emergency vehicles at hospitals and outpatient clinics. At the same time, retrain emergency skills for people with heatstroke, heat shock, and especially stroke; be ready to promptly rescue patients. On the other hand, coordinate with media units, preventive medicine centers... in the area to propagate and mobilize people to proactively prevent and combat heatstroke and sudden changes in temperature.
In addition, the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management also requested medical facilities to accurately re-evaluate the criteria: "Patients and their relatives are allowed to wait in a room with full amenities and are transported appropriately to their medical condition" in the Vietnam Hospital Quality Criteria to supplement and immediately repair the infrastructure if it has not been built or is degraded.
“Medical facilities need to urgently install canopies for walkways between buildings and in outdoor areas where there are many patients’ relatives. On the other hand, review the ventilation status in areas with many patients such as waiting rooms, corridors... and treatment departments, patient rooms, administrative rooms... Make plans to add fans and air conditioners to necessary areas. Mobilize funding sources to purchase ceiling fans, ventilation fans, steam fans or air conditioners within the hospital’s resources,” the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management requested.
Along with that, the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management also requires medical examination and treatment facilities to ensure the provision of free drinking water for patients and their relatives in clinical departments and waiting rooms. Add drinking water dispensers to locations where there is a shortage or where demand increases on hot days.
For hospitals with limited resources or difficulties in bidding, the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management recommends assigning hospital leaders, department leaders and social departments/groups to mobilize social resources, philanthropists, businesses... to join hands to share difficulties with the hospital; invest in and sponsor fans, air conditioners, water dispensers... to serve and improve the satisfaction of patients and medical staff.
