Minister Tran Hong Minh visited the Engineering Officer School on January 5.
At the meeting, Minister Tran Hong Minh shared that he studied and worked at the Engineering Officer School for 25 years.
The Minister said that engineering and transportation are two closely related sectors. During wartime, engineering and transportation were born almost at the same time, primarily to serve the task of fighting for national liberation and unification.
The Engineer Brigade has been awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces by the State three times. This is a great recognition of the dedication and sacrifice of the engineer force in both wartime and peacetime.
Regarding the River Bridge and Road Department of the Military Engineering Officer School, the Minister assessed that over the years, there have been positive contributions in participating in bridge and road construction projects of the military engineering sector and the southern provinces. The qualifications of cadres, lecturers and students have been constantly improved.
Minister Tran Hong Minh suggested that the school further improve investment in facilities, develop basic technology and core technology, thereby developing creative industries.

The Minister gave an example of the Bridge and Road sector needing to be equipped with new equipment, new types of rollers, bulldozers, and scoops... to teach closer to reality. Graduates can apply practical knowledge at construction sites. Lecturers need to improve theory with practice, practice complementing theory. From there, the level of staff, lecturers and students will be improved.
Previously, Colonel Tran Thanh Khoi said that Minister Tran Hong Minh was a former teacher and Head of the Bridge and River Crossing Department of the school. In 2007, as a PhD and Head of the Bridge and River Crossing Department, Mr. Tran Hong Minh was awarded the rank of Colonel, the youngest in the entire army.
He was then assigned as Brigade Commander of Brigade 249, then Deputy Chief of Staff of the Corps, Deputy Commander of the Corps. In 2013, he was appointed Commander of the Corps.
Also according to Colonel Tran Thanh Khoi, in his position as Commander of the Corps, Mr. Tran Hong Minh directed the engineers, using many creative measures, to save the lives of 12 workers trapped in the Da Dang - Da Chomo hydropower tunnel collapse (Lam Dong) in 2014. This event was even more meaningful as it coincided with the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army and was also the day Colonel Tran Hong Minh was promoted to the rank of Major General.

The Engineering Officer School was established in 1955, training a team of cadres and technical staff specializing in engineering; providing timely support to fronts, battlefields, and engineering agencies and units.
Currently, the school has 5 main departments, 8 specialized departments, focusing on training university-level officers specializing in engineering for the entire army. The school also cooperates in training cadres for the Ministry of Public Security, training commanding officers for the Royal Army of Cambodia, Laos... In addition, the unit also trains inland waterway staff and mine clearance staff.
With its outstanding achievements, the school was awarded the title of Heroic Unit of the People's Armed Forces by the State three times and many other noble Orders and Medals.
