On behalf of the Ministry of Health , Minister Dao Hong Lan praised and commended the professionalism, humanity, responsibility and professional ethics of Nurse Nguyen Thi Thao.

"Her actions spread a shining example of medical ethics and the sense of responsibility of health workers in serving the people" - Minister Dao Hong Lan wrote in a letter of commendation.

In the letter of commendation, the head of the health sector wished nurse Nguyen Thi Thao good health, happiness in life, steadfastness in her professional expertise and continued dedication to the cause of medical examination, treatment and health care for the people.

As reported by Health and Life, on the way home, nurse Nguyen Thi Thao - Respiratory Department, Hai Phong Children's Hospital promptly provided emergency care to a 7-day-old newborn baby who had stopped breathing and had a heart attack due to milk suffocation.

The incident happened at around 9pm on July 4th in Thuy Nguyen district, Hai Phong. While on her way home with her family (in Thuy Nguyen), nurse Nguyen Thi Thao saw an elderly man panicking, holding a purple newborn baby in his arms, running out into the street as if looking for a taxi to take him to the emergency room. Behind him, a woman was in a state of panic, crying loudly as if asking for help.

Having a hunch that the child was in trouble, with the intuition of a mother with a young child and the skills and responsibility of a nurse, Ms. Thao immediately stopped the car, ran over and quickly introduced herself as a medical staff at the Children's Hospital, so that she could give first aid to the child.

As she spoke, she took the baby from the old man's hand and put him in the back seat of the taxi that had just arrived. Without much time to think, nurse Thao focused on giving the baby emergency treatment such as chest compressions, mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, and direct suctioning of the nose and mouth... while the taxi drove to Thuy Nguyen General Hospital.

About 10 minutes later, the taxi arrived at Thuy Nguyen Hospital. Here, nurse Thao quickly carried the baby into the Emergency Department and informed her colleagues that "the patient has stopped breathing and has stopped having a heart attack. Please use an endotracheal tube to give emergency treatment to the patient." At the same time, Ms. Thao also went to give emergency treatment to the baby with the doctors and nurses of Thuy Nguyen Hospital.

After more than 1 minute of emergency care, a miracle happened, the newborn baby had a pulse again and was transferred to Hai Phong Children's Hospital for intensive treatment.

After 6 days of treatment, the patient's health condition has improved significantly, and blood parameters have gradually returned to normal. Currently, the child is still breathing oxygen and is continuing to be monitored and treated to recover his health.

Nurse Thao said: "Everything happened so suddenly, even to me and the baby's family, but I think any nurse in this situation would handle it the same way, not just me."
