Ministry of Defense grants decisions to officers to carry out UN peacekeeping missions

(Bqp.vn) - On the morning of April 8, in Hanoi, the Ministry of National Defense organized a ceremony to present the President's Decision to officers who will carry out UN peacekeeping missions in the Central African Republic, the Republic of South Sudan and the Abyei region. Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien, member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Minister of National Defense, Head of the Inter-sectoral Working Group, Head of the Ministry of National Defense's Steering Committee on participation in UN peacekeeping operations, chaired the ceremony. Attending the ceremony were representatives of a number of agencies and units of the Ministry of National Defense.

Speaking at the ceremony, Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien expressed his joy and appreciation for the results of the forces participating in the UN peacekeeping activities in the past time and congratulated the officers who were honored to receive the decision on this occasion. Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien said that this was both an honor and a responsibility, so the officers needed to thoroughly grasp and strictly implement the viewpoints and foreign policies of the Party, State and Army; strictly comply with military discipline, regulations of the United Nations, laws of the host country, and instructions of competent agencies; ensure absolute safety for people and equipment; at the same time, uphold the sense of responsibility and international solidarity, proactively overcome all difficulties, grasp the local situation, and promptly carry out assigned duties and tasks.

Vietnam People's Army officers were sent to perform UN peacekeeping missions under the President's Decision.

Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien also requested the Vietnam Peacekeeping Department to continue researching and promoting the expansion of activities, forms, scales and areas of participation; coordinate with relevant agencies to complete the legal framework and policy basis for participation in UN peacekeeping activities. Continue to pay attention to improving foreign language skills, research the ability to deploy forces to take command positions at missions...

Colonel Mac Duc Trong reported on preparations for officers before departing for UN peacekeeping missions.

According to Colonel Mac Duc Trong, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Peacekeeping Department, the Vietnam People's Army officers sent to perform the UN peacekeeping mission this time include: Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Sy Hieu (replacing Major Nguyen Van Phong, as Military Observer, MINUSCA Mission, Central African Republic); Major Nguyen Thi Thanh Loan (replacing Captain Tran Nam Phuong, as Logistics Staff Officer, UNISFA Mission, Abyei Region); Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Tien Long (replacing Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Nhu Tuan, as Military Observer, UNMISS Mission, Republic of South Sudan). All preparations have been completed, the officers are confident and ready to depart for their missions.

To date, Vietnam has sent nearly 800 officers and staff to participate in UN peacekeeping activities at 03 missions and the UN Headquarters. The Vietnam Peacekeeping Department is actively preparing to deploy 01 more position at the UN Headquarters and send personnel to apply for the position of Commander of the Military Police Force at the Central African Republic Mission according to the United Nations Invitation.
