According to Variety on July 25, "Inside Out 2" produced by Disney-Pixar surpassed "Frozen 2" to become the highest-grossing animated film in history.

After six weeks of release, Inside Out 2 has grossed $601 million domestically and $861 million internationally, bringing its global total to $1.46 billion.

Frozen 2 previously brought in $1.45 billion in 2019. The Lion King (2029) from the “Mouse House” grossed $1.65 billion, the film was technically created on a computer, but the studio classified it as live-action. So it doesn't have a place on the list of top animated films.

In terms of global box office revenue, Inside Out 2 overcome Barbie ($1.446 billion), making it the 13th highest-grossing film of all time. Among its record-holders, Pixar's brainchild is the fastest animated film to cross the billion-dollar mark, at 19 days. It's also the highest-grossing film of 2024 so far, and the first film this year to join the billion-dollar club.

Inside Out 2 exploded worldwide partly due to the success of the first part and the word-of-mouth effect. The first part was a success, earning 858 million USD worldwide.

The film cost $200 million to produce, helping Pixar pull itself out of a box office slump. Critics and audiences alike praised it, and word of mouth helped drive ticket sales.

Inside Out 2 recreates the mind of a young girl named Riley, preparing to enter high school. In Riley's head, there are many emotions such as Joy (voiced by Amy Poehler), Sadness (Phyllis Smith) and Anger (Lewis Black) controlling her mind. At summer camp, a series of new emotions are born, such as Anxiety (Maya Hawke), Envy (Ayo Edebiri), Embarrassment (Paul Walter Hauser) and Nostalgia (June Squibb).
