The knowledge in the 2025 high school graduation exam mainly belongs to grade 12, but there is still some from grades 10 and 11.

Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Ha, Deputy Director of the Department of Quality Management (Ministry of Education and Training) reminded candidates about the new points of this year's high school graduation exam at the 2025 Admissions and Career Counseling Day organized by the Ministry of Education and Training in coordination with Tuoi Tre Newspaper on March 16 in Hanoi.

Mr. Ha said that the exam closely follows the 2018 general education program in the direction of developing qualities and abilities. Candidates need to understand the knowledge and skills in the program with many sets of textbooks, especially practical and applied issues.

This year’s exam will have differentiating questions that require solving practical problems. Therefore, Mr. Ha noted that during the review process, for any content that can be related to reality, students need to get used to reasoning, researching, and creating situations in production life... to meet the requirements of the exam well. This is the key point for differentiation.

Another notable point is that the knowledge in this year's high school graduation exam mainly belongs to grade 12, but there are still some from grades 10 and 11. Questions can be developed in two forms, either grade 10 and 11 knowledge is independent; or grade 12 knowledge and connection to grades 10 and 11 to promote the ability and differentiate candidates.

"Therefore, students should focus on grade 12 knowledge, but also pay attention to the parts related to grades 11 and 10 to prepare well," emphasized Professor Nguyen Ngoc Ha.

Universities convert admission methods to the same scale

Along with the high school graduation exam, this year's university admissions also have many new points. At the consultation session, Associate Professor Dr. Hoang Minh Son - Deputy Minister of Education and Training said that this year many universities have changed their admission combinations, so the admission regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training are also flexible.

It is expected that schools will have to convert admission methods to the same scale. According to the Deputy Minister of Education and Training, this comes from the fact that there are currently two benchmarks: According to high school graduation exam scores and other benchmarks (scores based on academic records or scores based on thinking and capacity assessment test results).

Therefore, Mr. Son said, converting or determining these two benchmarks to be equivalent is very necessary to ensure fairness for candidates with equivalent abilities. The Ministry of Education and Training is working with universities to develop guidelines to ensure consistency in the spirit of ensuring diversity and autonomy of schools.

The Admissions and Career Guidance Fair in Hanoi was the largest ever, with the participation of nearly 20,000 students, nearly 90 universities, colleges, and secondary schools, and nearly 300 consulting booths, along with many students and parents watching online.

According to the Deputy Minister of Education and Training, this is not only a testament to the program's appeal, but also demonstrates the deep concern of the whole society for career orientation and preparation for the young generation - the core force in building and developing the country in the future.

Regarding changes in the organization of graduation exams and admission methods, creating pressure for candidates, Mr. Son said that these changes aim to create the best conditions for students, building a fairer, more transparent and favorable environment during the exam and admission process.

Giving advice to candidates in choosing a major, Mr. Son noted that they need to consider carefully based on their passion, ability and the practical needs of society in the future. At the same time, they should proactively equip themselves with necessary skills such as foreign languages, digital skills, critical thinking and a spirit of lifelong learning to continuously improve.

The Deputy Minister of Education and Training also expressed his hope that parents should not impose personal desires on their children, but should explore their interests and strengths with them and support them in choosing a career that suits their abilities and ambitions.
