On February 2, Dr. Vu Xuan Thuy, Deputy Director in charge of Binh Phuoc General Hospital, said that the hospital has basically met the needs of medicine and common medical supplies as requested by doctors.

Patients no longer have to go out to buy medicine.

For about a month now, the amount of medicine, medical supplies, and basic chemicals has met over 90% of the normal needs as requested by doctors. Of which, medical supplies have reached over 95%. Patients coming to the hospital almost no longer have to go out to buy medicine or medical supplies like before. It is expected that in about a week, some of the missing medicines and medical supplies will be supplemented.

Mr. Nguyen Van Ly (residing in Dong Tien commune, Dong Phu district) said that his wife has been on dialysis for the past 5 years. Every month, she has to undergo dialysis 10 to 12 times. In 2022 - 2023, the hospital lacked medicine and medical supplies, forcing him to go to private pharmacies outside to buy them, spending 3.5 to 4 million VND per month, even though his wife has health insurance.

Doctor Vu Xuan Thuy, Deputy Director in charge of Binh Phuoc General Hospital, asked about the patient's relatives after receiving health insurance medicine.

"Luckily, this situation has ended after about a month. At the hospital's health insurance drug counter, most medicines and medical supplies are now fully available, helping my family save a significant amount of money every month," Mr. Ly shared.

Similarly, Ms. Cao Thi Tuyen (living in Thanh Hoa ) said that her daughter came from her hometown to Binh Phuoc to work as a factory worker for 4 years. After a fever and convulsions, she had to be hospitalized for treatment at the Intensive Care and Anti-Poison Department of Binh Phuoc General Hospital for 7 months now.

"Before, from needles, bandages to many types of medicine, I had to go out to buy them because the hospital didn't have them. Every month, it cost 4 to 5 million VND even though I had health insurance. For about a month now, I've been very happy because I don't have to go out to buy them like before," Ms. Tuyen happily shared.

Vice Chairman of Binh Phuoc Provincial People's Committee Tran Tuyet Minh visited and presented Tet gifts to patients being treated at the hospital.

In December 2023 and January 2024, the Binh Phuoc Department of Health successfully bid for 2 packages of supplies, chemicals and medicines with a term of up to 2 years. This has helped not only Binh Phuoc General Hospital but also public health facilities in the province escape the shortage of medicines, medical supplies and chemicals.

Take early initiative in procurement bidding

Specialist Doctor II Do Thi Nguyen, Deputy Director in charge of the Department of Health of Binh Phuoc province, said that the Department of Health has also issued a plan to inspect drugs and medical supplies for all public health facilities in the area. If any unit has difficulties or problems, within its authority, the Department of Health will promptly resolve them to ensure adequate supply of drugs and medical supplies, especially during the 2024 Lunar New Year.

Vice Chairman of Binh Phuoc Provincial People's Committee Tran Tuyet Minh stated that the shortage of medicine and medical supplies in recent times is not only a difficult problem for Binh Phuoc but also for many provinces and cities across the country. Up to now, Binh Phuoc has basically solved this problem, patients no longer have to go out to buy medicine like before.

Ms. Minh also requested the Department of Health, Binh Phuoc General Hospital and public health facilities to be proactive early and remotely in bidding and purchasing drugs, medical supplies and chemicals according to their authority, to avoid the recurrence of drug and medical supply shortages. Especially during the Lunar New Year, Binh Phuoc General Hospital needs to perform well the 24/7 on-call duty; proactively support free meals, take care of patients as well as doctors, nurses and medical staff at the hospital.
