Hanoi After 4 years of breast augmentation at a spa, a 32-year-old woman felt a lot of pain. The doctor discovered that her mammary glands had inflammation, suspected to be silicone.

On June 14, Dr. Hoang Thanh Tuan, Head of the Department of Plastic Surgery, Le Huu Trac National Burn Institute, said the patient was admitted to the hospital with chest pain and discomfort.

She said that 4 years ago, she had breast augmentation filler injections at a spa, each side injected 100 ml at a cost of 40 million VND. Filler is a commonly used filler in cosmetic surgery, injected directly into the bridge of the nose or face, areas of reduced volume (atrophy, depression, tissue loss...) due to aging or illness. Normally, filler injections can dissolve naturally through the body's natural elimination mechanism.

After the injection, the patient felt pain in the injection area, and then her breasts started to sag. Recently, the pain got worse, so she went to see a doctor.

Doctor Tuan performed an ultrasound of the mammary gland tissue and found inflammation, and determined that the patient had been injected with silicone, causing dangerous complications. When injected into the body, silicone does not stay in one location but penetrates into tissues and organs. In addition, the chest area is a sensitive area, injecting silicone of unknown origin can cause embolism, infection, and affect the mammary glands, gradually destroying the chest wall.

Doctors removed the liquid silicone and a lot of inflammatory fluid, then removed the fibrous capsule and reconstructed the patient's chest cavity.

Mr. Tuan warned that there are currently many advertisements that "play" on the trust and desire to be beautiful immediately, without surgery, causing many women to fall into the trap. The nature of these methods is to put fillers into the body and often have no origin.

"Some people spend billions of dong to inject fillers from head to toe, and only seek help from doctors when complications arise. When they arrive at the hospital, we cannot identify what the substance is, and in many cases there are complications of infection and swelling," said Dr. Tuan.

He advised women who want to improve their bust size to be equipped with basic knowledge about the methods, consulted and performed by reputable doctors and hospitals, and licensed by the Ministry of Health. People absolutely do not listen to advertisements that introduce foreign substances into the body, leading to incompatibility, rejection, and infection.
