On April 8, Nam Can Tho University Hospital announced that it had just coordinated with Hue Central Hospital to successfully perform surgery on a patient with a large spinal cord tumor.
Previously, Mr. NVĐ (46 years old, residing in Bac Lieu) had symptoms of numbness, numbness from the hips to both feet. The patient had received treatment in many places but there was no improvement, the numbness became more and more severe. About 10 days before being hospitalized, the patient's lower limbs gradually weakened, on the day of hospitalization, he lost the ability to walk, and had urinary and bowel disorders.
Patient successfully underwent surgery to treat a large spinal cord tumor.
At Can Tho University Hospital, after examination and MRI, the patient was diagnosed with a tumor in the spinal canal outside the thoracic spinal cord. Doctors agreed to perform surgery to remove the tumor and relieve pressure on the spinal canal.
The surgical team was led by Master, Doctor Ngo Van Quang Anh, Deputy Head of the Department of Neurosurgery, Hue Central Hospital, and doctors from Can Tho University Hospital.
The surgery lasted 3 hours, the entire tumor was removed, safely protecting the patient's spinal cord and nerve roots. After 6 days of surgery, the survival indicators were stable, the patient was instructed to practice rehabilitation to improve movement of both lower limbs.
