On June 16, La Nácion reported that Elena Correa - Miss Costa Rica 2017 was arrested at her home in San Rafael, in the province of Heredia. She was accused of fraud, theft of more than 40,000 USD and valuable assets, as well as the passport of her husband, businessman Carlos Rodríguez.
The Heredia Provincial Deputy Prosecutor's Office later said the beauty was released at 7 p.m. the same day after investigation, but Elena Correa was not allowed to see her husband.

Earlier, La Teja newspaper reported that businessman Carlos Rodríguez accused his wife of stealing a large sum of money from him through bank transfers and also stealing a luxury watch.
Businessmen Carlos Rodríguez and Elena Correa are currently in the process of divorcing, but there are many disagreements regarding property disputes as well as post-divorce support issues.
Meanwhile, Elena Correa also spoke out against her husband. She said that the businessman was unfaithful and caused her a lot of physical and mental pain when they were still living together.
Elena Correa also said that businessman Carlos Rodríguez repeatedly insulted her for participating in beauty pageants. He said these contests do not respect women.
At the time Elena Correa was crowned Miss Costa Rica 2017, Elena Correa and businessman Carlos Rodríguez were in a passionate relationship. Carlos Rodríguez attended Elena Correa's coronation and showered her with attention and care.
The businessman, then 68, told the media after his girlfriend was crowned Miss: "Today I see her happy. It's something she dreamed of since she was a child and now it's come true. I'm proud to be her boyfriend."
Elena Correa is 32 years old and 1.85 m tall. She was appointed Miss Costa Rica 2017 and then represented the country at Miss Universe 2017, but did not win any prizes.
