Song Tu Tay Island infirmary provides emergency aid to fishermen in distress at sea

On December 11, Song Tu Tay Island infirmary, Truong Sa island district, Khanh Hoa province received and successfully performed emergency surgery on fisherman Le Lai, whose left hand was caught in an ice crusher, causing him to bleed profusely.

The patient was admitted to Song Tu Tay Island infirmary in the following condition: conscious, good contact, dizzy, vertigo, the wound on the left hand was covered with many layers, the wound was cleaned to reveal: peeled nails on fingers I and III, peeled skin on the back of the hand down to the first and second phalanges, exposed metacarpophalangeal joints, exposed fracture of phalanges 1, necrosis of phalanges 2 and 3, soft tissue was bruised and jagged, bleeding oozed out.

Through examination, the island's military doctor diagnosed the patient with a wound on his left hand: Avulsion of the nail on the first and third fingers, open fracture of the first phalanx in the metacarpophalangeal joint, necrosis of the second and third phalanges due to a work accident on the second day.

Military doctors performed surgery to clean the wound, remove necrotic tissue, reconstruct the stump of the third finger, suture the wound of the first finger of the left hand, administer fluids, antibiotics, pain relievers, and monitor the stump after surgery. After nearly two hours of performing professional measures, the surgery was successful. Patient Le Lai's health is temporarily stable, and he will continue to stay on the island for monitoring and post-operative treatment.

Previously, at around 12:30 on December 10, while fishing in the sea near Song Tu Tay Island, fisherman Lai was working when his left hand got caught in an ice crusher, causing a lot of bleeding. The patient was given sugar to apply to the wound, bandaged to stop the bleeding on the spot, and then transferred to Song Tu Tay Island for emergency treatment.

Patient Le Lai (52 years old, from Phu Dong Ward, Tuy Hoa City, Phu Yen Province) is a crew member of fishing boat PY 92122 TS, working with purse seine, with 5 workers on board.
