Ho Chi Minh City After 6 years of receiving the Vanci skin robot, Binh Dan Hospital cooperated with the supplier to train 5 surgeons on-site and received international certification.
The information was announced by Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Vinh Hung, Director of Binh Dan Hospital (HCMC) at the National Scientific Conference on Surgery and Endoscopic Surgery organized by the Vietnam Association of Surgery and Endoscopic Surgery (VASEL) in collaboration with Binh Dinh General Hospital on December 8 and 9.
The hospital is currently training three more surgical teams to add to the 23 existing teams, including 12 general teams and 11 urology teams. Previously, doctors had to go to Korea or the US for training.
Robotic surgery is also becoming more accepted by patients. In 2017, the hospital performed only 243 surgeries, nearly doubling this year to 463.
"Before, a surgery lasted 6-7 hours, but now it only takes 1.5 to 4 hours," said Dr. Hung.
Binh Dan Hospital is the first unit to deploy robotic surgery for adults. Robotic surgery has advantages thanks to 3D images, high magnification, good analysis of narrow areas and preservation of organ function, bringing benefits to patients, Mr. Hung said.

The expert also predicted that in the future, Asia Pacific will be a region with an explosion in the application of robotic surgery. To catch up with world medicine, Vietnam needs to train human resources, strengthen cooperation and exchange with world medicine, and at the same time invest more in robotic systems, endoscopy, endovascular intervention... from investment budget sources and stimulus loans.
According to the Organizing Committee, the National Scientific Conference on Surgery and Endoscopic Surgery is an event organized annually by the Vietnam Association of Surgery and Endoscopic Surgery. The conference is a prestigious scientific forum attracting the participation of many professors, associate professors, doctors, nurses, medical managers, and leaders of military and civilian medical facilities nationwide. This year, the highlight is the many presentations and video presentations, along with the application of information technology, artificial intelligence, and robots in the medical industry.
