Specifically, from August 2021 to October 2021, Cho Ray Hospital had 1,576 people hospitalized for Covid-19 treatment. This study randomly selected 351 patients, of which 139 were severe and critical, and 220 were moderate.

Nurse Tran Thi Thuy said that hospital fees for medical care for Covid-19 patients are not only a concern for individual patients, their families, and the community, but also for health economic managers and policy makers in a locality, country, or region.

From there, there is a need to conduct a survey to find out the cost of Covid-19 treatment, with the goal of creating an initial reference data source for assessing the impact of the pandemic on the economy at different levels (individual, household, community...), which is a premise for health economic research on infectious diseases and intensive care.

The research team estimated that the cost of treating 43,000 Covid-19 patients who died nationwide was more than 6,000 billion VND and the mortality rate at the peak of the epidemic was also very high.

In addition, a group of authors from the Department of Nephrology - Urology and the Department of Microbiology, Cho Ray Hospital studied the mortality rate of Covid-19 patients after kidney transplant.

The study was conducted on kidney transplant patients with Covid-19 at Cho Ray Hospital from July 10, 2021 to April 2, 2022; there were 314 kidney transplant patients with Covid-19 and there were 12 deaths.

From this result, the research team concluded that, despite having to use immunosuppressants, the mortality rate in kidney transplant patients with Covid-19 was not higher than that of patients who did not use immunosuppressants.

Meanwhile, high mortality rates were recorded among those requiring intensive care and those on ventilators.

Dr. Nguyen Tri Thuc, Director of Cho Ray Hospital, said that as a special-class hospital directly under the Central Government, in addition to its treatment and support functions for the medical examination and treatment network of the southern provinces, Cho Ray Hospital is also one of the leading centers in the country in training and scientific research activities.

The annual scientific conference is one of the training activities that has brought many results in recent times. Following those successes, the 2023 Annual Scientific Conference officially took place with a plenary session and 25 thematic sessions.

“The Cho Ray Hospital Annual Scientific Conference is considered a scientific festival of the medical sector. The event not only updates the latest information and techniques in diagnosis and treatment but also gives attendees many opportunities to interact, learn and exchange experiences with leading experts at home and abroad,” added Dr. Nguyen Tri Thuc, Director of Cho Ray Hospital.
