According to SCMP , on July 30, an 8-year-old girl living in Zhejiang province (China) lost her grandfather on the way home from dance class. Unable to contact her family, the girl became worried.
Later, the girl noticed an ATM nearby and pressed the red button next to it, connecting to the bank's monitoring center.
Zhou Dongying, an employee of Quzhou Rural Commercial Bank, answered the girl's call via the internal communication service.
“Do you have your grandfather's phone number?” Zhou asked, but she couldn't remember the phone numbers of her family members.
Zhou then called the police, telling the girl to stay where she was and reassuring her: "Stay here and don't move, the police are on their way."
Police quickly arrived at the ATM, helping the girl reunite with her family.
Immediately after the girl pressed the special button on the ATM, the police quickly arrived (Photo: QQ).
According to Tide News , many local self-service ATMs in Hangzhou province have two types of emergency assistance buttons: an "emergency call" button and a red "emergency alarm" button.
The bank said the "emergency call" button allows people to contact the bank's monitoring center directly.
On the other hand, the "panic" button is designed to quickly alert the police in case of an emergency at the ATM.
In fact, this is not the first time lost children have sought help from an ATM.
In February 2021, a 5-year-old boy in Hubei province who got lost from his mother in a supermarket used the emergency button to reunite with his family.
A video clip of a boy trying to stand on his tiptoes to press the emergency button next to an ATM machine went viral on social media, receiving much praise from netizens.
This time, the online community praised the 8-year-old girl for her intelligence, expressing surprise at the novel way of using the ATM.
"She's so smart," said one.
"This is the first time I know that ATM can be used like this. The girl is so smart, thank you to the warm bank staff," said another.
"Today I learned a new emergency skill," commented a third.
