C00 combination spectrum abnormality

TPO – The score distribution of Literature and combination C00 (Literature, History, Geography) compared to recent years is unusual with a sharp increase in the number of candidates achieving high scores.

Statistics from Tien Phong newspaper show that in the Literature subject, in the 2024 high school graduation exam, the whole country had 1,843 candidates scoring 9.75 points. In 2022, this number was 172, in 2023 it was 443 candidates. The number of candidates scoring 9.75 points this year is 10.7 times higher than in 2022 and 4.6 times higher than in 2023.

High scores in Literature are also concentrated in some unexpected provinces. For example, out of 1,843 candidates who scored 9.75 points in Literature, Tra Vinh province has 99 students, nearly 5 times higher than Thanh Hoa province and 4.5 times higher than Vinh Phuc.

Notably, Tra Vinh province students scored an average of 8,094 points in Literature, ranking second among 63 provinces and cities, after Ninh Binh, up 49 places compared to 2023 (51st place). This province has 2,554 candidates scoring 9 points in Literature or higher, accounting for 26% of the total number of candidates in the province taking the graduation exam this year and is the second-ranked locality nationwide (after Ninh Binh).

Of the total 1,843 candidates who scored 9.75 in Literature in the 2024 high school graduation exam nationwide, Bac Ninh holds the record with 606 students achieving this score, 2.8 times higher than Hanoi, nearly 9 times higher than Nghe An; more than 30 times higher than Thanh Hoa, 30 times higher than Vinh Phuc; nearly 3.7 times higher than Nam Dinh. Thus, it can be seen that the number of candidates who scored 9.75 in Literature in Bac Ninh accounts for nearly 33% of the total number of candidates achieving this score nationwide.

If the score is 9.5, Bac Ninh has 1,284 candidates achieving this score. From 9 and above, there are 4,532 candidates achieving, accounting for 25.9%. Thus, for every 4 candidates taking the exam, there is more than 1 candidate achieving a score of 9 and above, and if the score is from 9.5 and above, for every 10 candidates taking the exam, Bac Ninh has 1 candidate achieving this score.

Nationwide, in the Literature exam with a score of 9, the number of candidates passing this year is 92,055, more than double that of 2023 (43,387 candidates); 3.8 times that of 2022 (24,154 candidates).

This year, no locality has an average score below average for Literature. Among the centrally-run cities, Ho Chi Minh City has the lowest Literature score, with an average score of 6.6. The whole country has 7 provinces/cities with an average Literature score at the excellent level, that is, 8 or higher, including: Ninh Binh; Tra Vinh; Nam Dinh; Ha Nam; Nghe An; Thanh Hoa; Hai Phong. The lowest score in the country is Cao Bang, with approximately 6 points.

Where is the benchmark going?

Regarding Literature, the C00 combination this year also has a very unusual score distribution. Statistics show that there are over 160,000 candidates with a C00 combination score of 24 points or more, 3.8 times higher than in 2023 and nearly 2.7 times higher than in 2022.

At a high score of 27 points, this year nearly 29,000 candidates passed, 11 times higher than in 2023 and 6.8 times higher than in 2022.

At the 28-point mark, this year it has increased 10 times compared to last year, this year there are 7,620 students, last year there were 740 students achieving it. At even higher marks, from 29.25 points and above, the number can be counted on one hand every year, this year the whole country has 380 students achieving 29.25 points or more (last year there were only 7 students).

From the score distribution, it can be seen that this year's benchmark scores for the C00 group at top schools are very unpredictable. For universities where the exam questions are not differentiated, enrollment is facing many difficulties.

In 2023, the highest benchmark score for the C00 combination at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi is Public Relations, 28.78 points; Journalism and Oriental Studies are both 28.5 points. The History Pedagogy major of Hanoi National University of Education 2 has the highest benchmark score, up to 28.58 points, while at Hanoi National University of Education it is 28.42 points. The benchmark score for the C00 combination has always been the highest in the training majors of Hanoi Law University in recent years. In 2023, the benchmark score for the C00 combination of the Economic Law major is the highest at Hanoi Law University, 27.36 points.

Similarly, the C00 group always has the highest standard score among the admission groups to the Diplomatic Academy. Last year, the International Communication major of the academy had the highest standard score of 28.43 points in the C00 group.

For other exam groups, in general, the number of candidates at the average score level has increased slightly, but at the high levels there is not much fluctuation.
