“The design style here is rustic, simple, and completely Hue-style. The city values this very much, so distinguished guests who come to Hue often come here. They consider this the most Hue-like part of Hue,” said Professor Thai Kim Lan during a talk show to mark the opening of the Huong River Ancient Ceramic Museum at this very Hue-style house.
The garden area named Lan Vien fairy tale, where the Huong River Ancient Pottery Museum is located.
Professor Thai Kim Lan, a Vietnamese expatriate in Germany, after many years of living abroad, but with a deep love for Hue, a deep love for the heritage left by our ancestors, returned to Hue to carry out the plans that she has cherished for a long time. That is to establish a museum of ancient ceramics of the Perfume River after nearly 40 years of collecting and preserving... This is the first private museum of ancient ceramics in Hue.
In the cool and airy space of Hue garden houses in Kim Long land, visitors will admire thousands of ancient ceramic artifacts salvaged from the Huong River, dating from the 17th-18th-19th centuries, which are very valuable.
This is the only museum in the country that displays ceramics found from rivers in Thua Thien Hue province. With an area of about 700 m2 , the museum currently has nearly 5 thousand artifacts, most of which are ancient ceramics salvaged from the bottom of the Perfume River, dating from many eras; from Cham ceramics, Sa Huynh ceramics, Prehistoric, Early Historical, Early Le ceramics... and even ceramic artifacts that were produced in the ancient villages of Phuoc Tich, My Xuyen... today.
Some relics were salvaged from the Perfume River.
Daily life items such as jars, pots, vases, cups, bowls, lime pots made of different materials such as terracotta, porcelain, and ceramics are abundantly displayed in the museum.
Relics are classified by age and displayed in the Huong River Ancient Pottery Museum.
The opening of the Huong River Ancient Pottery Museum has contributed to increasing the choices for tourists when coming to Hue. Evaluating the museum, Dr. Nguyen Thi Anh Thu (Faculty of Cultural Heritage, Hanoi University of Culture) said: "In the past few decades, many rivers across the country such as the Red River and Dong Nai River have found antiquities, but only Hue has a museum specializing in displaying antiquities salvaged from such a large river. The location of the Huong River Ancient Pottery Museum is also very valuable. It is the only museum in Vietnam located in a very real space right on the bank of the Huong River, where the artifacts were found. The museum is temporarily considered the largest known underwater archaeological site in Vietnam."
If you have the opportunity to leisurely travel to Hue, you should once experience finding the past when coming here, walking under the rows of cool green trees, grass, flowers... in the typical Hue garden house to visit and experience the relics salvaged from the bottom of the legendary Huong River of the once-distant imperial land./.
