Ho Thi Ky Commune is a gateway commune located on the main road, bordering many districts, such as: U Minh, Tran Van Thoi and Ca Mau City, so it is an "ideal" choice for thieves, robbers or gangs that need to "settle" each other. Because if they are surrounded by the authorities, they can easily escape to neighboring districts.
Having identified the purpose of the subjects, the Commune Police have developed many plans and solutions to stop and reduce this situation, maintain security and order in the area, and ensure a peaceful life for the people. Recognizing the important role of the people in reporting, fighting and preventing crimes, the unit focuses on mass mobilization work. Thanks to doing a good job of mass mobilization work, in recent times, the Commune Police have received many valuable sources of information, providing good support for the fight against crime and ensuring security and order in the area.
In addition to information from the people, "magic eyes" also help the commune police track down criminals.
“The area is large and the force is small, so in order to grasp and promptly detect criminals, it is necessary to have information from the grassroots. Having determined this, the unit coordinates with organizations to focus on propaganda and mobilizing people to proactively prevent crime, strictly implement legal regulations, and teach children not to violate the law. At the same time, mobilize people to boldly denounce crimes, contributing with the functional sector to push back social evils and maintain security and order in the area,” said Lieutenant Colonel Van Minh Truoc, Head of the Commune Police.
That is the theory, but when it comes to implementation, Ho Thi Ky Commune Police encountered many difficulties, because most people are still afraid of being implicated and being retaliated against. Accordingly, many incidents happened right before their eyes and they clearly knew the movements of the criminals, but people were "afraid" to report them.
Through the process of mobilizing, specifically from the work done by the police force, people gradually trusted and "opened their hearts" to help. "Although the area is large, with hamlets nearly 20 km away from the headquarters, when receiving reports from the people, the force sent officers to act quickly. Working seriously, not complaining but quickly helping people solve problems, this has gradually created trust among the people," Lieutenant Colonel Truoc shared.
Reassurance, creating spiritual support, along with a series of practical actions, the Commune Police have built many "eyes and ears" among the people, thereby collecting many valuable sources of information, helping the authorities quickly locate the perpetrators and promptly prevent many groups with the intention of killing each other, keeping the people's lives peaceful.
A specific incident, at around 7pm on March 12, Ho Thi Ky Commune Police received a report that a group of young men were carrying weapons in Tac Thu Hamlet. The police force set up a checkpoint and caught the group of 7 young men red-handed while they were driving a motorbike, one of which was carrying a white bag containing primitive weapons, tools, and means capable of causing harm.

The seized evidence included 8 homemade knives and 2 metal pipes. Through questioning, the subjects admitted to participating in gathering many people and carrying rudimentary weapons, aiming to disturb public order at Bach Nguu bridge in Tac Thu hamlet.
Awake for the sleeping people
Since February 2023, prostitution has been on the rise in Ho Thi Ky commune. Subjects take advantage of dimly lit coffee shops to operate, with many forms of prostitution, sometimes the subject sells on the spot, sometimes after reaching an agreement, they go to a motel to carry out the sale. This is a new social evil in the area, which has been evolving with many variations and spreading widely.
Lieutenant Colonel Truoc said: “The situation of prostitution has started to emerge in the area, it must be stopped right from the beginning, not allowing it to develop into a large network. So when receiving information from the people, the force had to split up to act, monitor until the evening of June 1, when they caught 4 subjects who were buying and selling sex and proceeded to handle it according to the law.”
The People's Police force at the grassroots level in general, and the Ho Thi Ky Commune Police in particular, almost do not have specific working hours, not 8-hour work days and not all work is off, but must work proactively 24/7, when an incident occurs in the area, they must be present immediately to promptly handle it.
“During the day, everyone does their own work, and at night, we divide the patrol shifts to ensure we are on the road 24/7, patrolling hamlets and key, complex areas. Day and night, we must be proactive in handling all situations,” Lieutenant Colonel Truoc shared.
In just the first 5 months of the year, Ho Thi Ky Commune Police handled over 20 cases of social evils, 14 cases of violations of security and order, involving over 150 subjects, with fines totaling over 250 million VND.
With the efforts of the Commune Police force, the security and order situation in the area is maintained, people feel secure in living and working, and developing the socio-economy./.
