Party and State leaders and former leaders attended the announcement and awarding ceremony of the 8th National Press Award on Party Building (Golden Hammer and Sickle Award) - 2023.
According to the organizers, the 8th Golden Hammer and Sickle Award - 2023 was launched on February 3, 2023. By the time of closing the submission of entries for the 8th Golden Hammer and Sickle Award - 2023, the Award Standing Agency (Party Building Magazine) had received a total of 2,216 works, an increase of 184 works compared to 2022 (8.6%). Of which, there were 755 print works, 549 electronic works, 530 television works, 280 radio works and 102 photojournalistic works.
The works participating in the Golden Hammer and Sickle Award this year in central and local press agencies continued to be rich in themes and genres and covered all provinces and cities in the country. Most of the works closely followed hot issues, outstanding events, and key tasks of the political system and the country. Many works deeply reflected the current issues of Party building and rectification. Some works addressed current pressing issues, with high social criticism and combativeness.
Notably, the 8th Golden Hammer and Sickle Award - 2023 has the largest number of provincial press agencies submitting television works ever, even including district-level cultural centers, television programs of the Public Security, Military Commands of provinces and private media companies submitting works to participate in the award. Some works have great depth and quality, high propaganda effectiveness, sharply refuting the distorted arguments of hostile forces.

According to the organizers, the Final Round Council met and discussed enthusiastically and democratically, voted, and selected the best works out of 120 works in the final round to award prizes, including 6 A Prizes, 12 B Prizes, 18 C Prizes, 30 Encouragement Prizes, and 6 Special Prizes.
Speaking at the ceremony, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized that, looking back at 2023 and more than half of the 13th National Party Congress term, despite facing many unprecedented difficulties and challenges in the domestic and international context, under the leadership of the Party, which is regularly and directly led by the Politburo and the Secretariat, headed by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, with high will, determination, great efforts, drastic actions and the spirit of "First support, then support", "One call, all respond", "Unanimity above and below", "Consistency across the board", our entire Party, people and army have upheld the spirit of solidarity, joint efforts, unanimity, innovation and creativity. Our country has achieved important results in many fields with many outstanding marks, highly appreciated by the international community.
According to the Prime Minister, the achievements of 2023 and the past half-term of the 13th National Party Congress have contributed to important and historic achievements in nearly 40 years of renovation and in the revolutionary cause of our Party, our People, and our Nation over the past nearly 95 years, under the glorious hammer and sickle flag of the Party.

The Prime Minister said that through 8 times of organization, the National Press Award on Party building named "Golden Hammer and Sickle" has affirmed its value, attractiveness, and influence on the work of Party building, building the political system, and building the contingent of cadres; at the same time, it affirms the profound political awareness, professional ethics, and steadfast devotion to the revolution of journalists nationwide, worthy of Uncle Ho's teaching: "Journalists are also revolutionary soldiers".
The Steering Committee and Organizing Committee of the 8th Golden Hammer and Sickle Award have directed the organization to be tight, methodical, scientific and professional. Party committees, ministries, branches and localities have proactively and actively participated and considered participating in the Golden Hammer and Sickle Award an important task, creating a vibrant atmosphere and attracting the attention of all classes of people to the work of Party building, building the cadre team and building the political system. The Prime Minister said that the works participating in the award closely followed the guidelines and viewpoints on Party building work, vividly reflecting political activities in the Party; especially urgent emerging issues such as building culture and ethics in the Party, fighting against "fear of responsibility and fear of mistakes", encouraging and protecting dynamic, creative cadres who dare to think, dare to do, dare to face difficulties and challenges, strive to act for the common good; fight against corruption and negativity; refute wrong and distorted views, protect the Party's ideological foundation... In addition, the works also proposed solutions to remove difficulties and obstacles, encourage spirit, and arouse aspirations for rapid and sustainable local and national development.
The Prime Minister said that the 72 excellent works selected by the Organizing Committee for this award are excellent representatives of the 2,216 works participating in the Award, converging and crystallizing the passion, intelligence and demonstrating the exploration, creative work with sharp political thinking, conscience, social responsibility and noble love for the homeland and country of journalists.
The Head of Government pointed out that our country is entering 2024 - one of the decisive years in successfully implementing the Resolution of the 13th Party Congress, with new opportunities and new fortunes, but also facing many new difficulties and challenges.
Member of the Politburo, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court Nguyen Hoa Binh and Member of the Politburo, Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics Nguyen Xuan Thang presented the C prize to the authors and groups of authors whose works won the prize.
In that context, the proud 94-year history of our Party shows that we must pay special attention to and further promote the work of comprehensive Party building and rectification in terms of politics, ideology, ethics, organization and cadres. In particular, we must thoroughly grasp, deepen and seriously implement the important guidelines of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong in the article "Proud and confident under the glorious flag of the Party, determined to build an increasingly rich, civilized, cultured and heroic Vietnam" on the occasion of the 94th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam.
“This is not only the task of Party committees and organizations, but also requires the active and drastic participation of the entire political system, of all classes of people, and of press and propaganda agencies,” the Prime Minister pointed out.
With the motto of "using beauty to eliminate ugliness", "using positivity to push back negativity", Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh requested Party committees and organizations at all levels to focus on leadership, direction, and creating conditions for press agencies and reporters to focus on propagating and reflecting the Party's theoretical values, innovative viewpoints, and determination to build a clean and strong Party; further increase articles about advanced models, good people, good deeds, exemplary individuals; new models, good and creative ways of doing things.
Authors and groups of authors received the Encouragement Prize. Among them, journalist Ha Van (6th from left) of the Journalists and Public Opinion newspaper won the Encouragement Prize with a series of 5 articles: "Revolutionary Journalism and the Mission of Guiding the Way".
Continue to fight to prevent and repel degradation in political ideology, morality, lifestyle, and manifestations of "self-evolution" and "self-transformation"; prevent and combat corruption, waste, and negativity; fight and refute distorted arguments and wrong viewpoints of hostile forces and reactionary organizations; firmly protect the Party's ideological foundation; improve the leadership capacity and fighting strength of Party organizations and Party members.
The Prime Minister said that, after 8 times of organization, the Golden Hammer and Sickle Award has affirmed its prestige and position in the national press award system, received deep attention and leadership from Party committees at all levels, attracted the participation of many classes of people, and has truly become an event that is awaited and expected before the annual anniversary of the Party's founding, and this is the affirmation of the award's brand and prestige.

At the ceremony, the Steering Committee of the Award considered and decided to select 5 Party members as typical characters in the award-winning press work, including comrades: Po Dan Xinh, Ha Nhi ethnic group, former Party Secretary of Sin Thau commune, Muong Nhe district, Dien Bien province; village elder Ksor H'Blam, Gia Rai ethnic group, Ia Mo commune, Chu Prong district, Gia Lai; Lam Khem, Khmer ethnic group in Luong Nghia commune, Long My district, Hau Giang; Mr. Nguyen Van Mai and Ms. Le Thi Cung, a couple with 75 years of Party membership in Quang Phuc commune, Tu Ky district, Hai Duong.

Also at the ceremony, Comrade Mai Van Chinh, member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Head of the Central Organizing Committee, Head of the Organizing Committee, launched the 9th National Press Award on Party Building (Golden Hammer and Sickle Award) - 2024. Accordingly, 2024 is the fourth year of implementing the resolutions of the 13th Central Committee, in conjunction with the determination to successfully complete the goals of the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress and the resolutions of the Party Congresses at all levels for the 2020-2025 term; at the same time, actively prepare for the Party Congresses at all levels for the 2025-2030 term towards the 14th National Congress of the Party...
The Journalist & Public Opinion newspaper has a series of articles "Revolutionary Journalism and the Mission of Leading the Way" by journalist Ha Van that won the Encouragement Prize.
A series of 5 articles raises issues surrounding the ethical "cracks" from recent cases of law violations by journalists. The author chooses a new approach when looking at and reflecting on the story of professional ethics associated with the teachings of beloved Uncle Ho. In particular, through conversations with leaders of the Vietnam Journalists Association, leaders of press agencies, famous journalists... the story is connected throughout, finding effective solutions to "guide" the Vietnamese revolutionary press.
All to affirm that, while there are many pressures and challenges, revolutionary journalists think about Uncle Ho, the Party, the people, think about the reason for existence, to strive to regain the public's trust, maintain core values, preserve the revolutionary character in the source of professional culture. And certainly, on that journey, the words of beloved Uncle Ho will always echo: "A journalist is first and foremost a revolutionary cadre!"; "A revolutionary cadre must have revolutionary ethics, must maintain revolutionary ethics to be a true cadre. The key to success or failure depends on whether the cadre is imbued with ethics or not?"...
