Many women are addicted to cosmetic surgery with the desire to be more beautiful - Photo: PROVIDED BY HOSPITAL
Working as an online salesperson, Ms. LTD (residing in Long Bien District, Hanoi) always felt that she was not beautiful enough. Over the past 3 years, Ms. D. decided to have 5 major cosmetic surgeries and dozens of minor surgeries, injections, and skin tightening but was still not satisfied.
In 2021, Ms. D. had breast augmentation and abdominoplasty. In 2022, Ms. D. went to Ho Chi Minh City to have implants to enhance her butt. However, the surgical wound became infected and Ms. D. had to go to the hospital to have the implants removed.
Doctor Nguyen Minh Nghia - in charge of the cosmetic surgery department, Hoe Nhai Hospital (Hanoi) - said that during the time of repairing the complications of her buttock, Ms. D. continued to do many other services on her eyes, eyelids, nose, skin tightening, filler injections... This woman spent billions of dong on beauty but always felt unsatisfied and imperfect.
Most recently, Ms. D. had the bag replaced and filler injected into her buttock area, hoping for a fuller, more rounded butt. Every time she saw the doctor, she always asked: "Is there anything else that needs to be adjusted to make it more beautiful?"
"This is a sign of 'addiction' when performing many cosmetic procedures at the same time, continuously," said Dr. Nghia.
Not only Ms. LTD, Ms. T. (Hanoi) also had breast augmentation surgery 5 times in nearly 3 years.
The first time, Ms. T. came to Dr. Minh for advice on breast augmentation in 2021, but the doctor advised against it.
After that, this young mother went to another doctor to perform a breast lift and implant. However, the results were not as expected. Ms. T. continued to have a second surgery but her breasts were uneven and distorted.
The third time, this woman had her areola reduced but was still not satisfied. The fourth time, she decided to remove her breast implants.
After the implant was removed, the breast continued to shrink, making Ms. T. feel self-conscious and insecure. She returned to the department to ask for advice on replacing the implant.
But after 5 breast augmentations, Ms. T. still felt that the results were not as expected.
According to Dr. Nghia, the demand for cosmetic surgery is currently very large and completely justified. However, when doing cosmetic surgery, customers need to consider carefully and consult carefully to avoid falling into addiction syndrome.
Many patients have unrealistic expectations of cosmetic surgery. When the results are not as expected, they seek to have surgery again in the hope of becoming more beautiful. However, repeated cosmetic surgery does not necessarily mean better.
Doctors recommend that when women want to beautify themselves, they should choose a reputable facility and learn carefully about the methods, materials, and risks involved. Cosmetic surgery clinics are only allowed to perform minor surgeries. Breast augmentation, liposuction, and buttock implants must be performed at a hospital.
