Speaking at the workshop, Editor-in-Chief of Economic and Urban Newspaper Nguyen Thanh Loi said that in the trend of digital transformation, press agencies, in addition to carrying out political tasks, need to do well and keep up with the movement and development trends of the digital technology era. For press agencies to successfully transform digitally, there must be technology and support solutions from management agencies and connections between press agencies. Press economics in the trend of digital transformation has gradually approached the keyword "digital press economy".
To develop the press economy in the current competitive context, according to Mr. Nguyen Thanh Loi, the press needs to change its mindset and attach importance to modern press technology. It is no coincidence that press agencies around the world have come up with a new journalism philosophy: Content and technology must go hand in hand. Technology is the “Queen”, or “the public is number 1” has been dominating the global press market, of which Vietnam is no exception.
Overview of the workshop.
According to Journalist Dao Quang Binh - General Secretary of the Vietnam Economic Magazine, due to the dual market nature of the press (with two main sources of revenue from readers and advertisers), the revenue of the press is increasingly large, creating conditions for the press to develop strongly.
In society, a press and media economy is being formed. The two decisive pillars for the press and media economy are press and media products and advertising services on media. Press economy becomes the driving force for press development.
Journalist Vu Xuan Ban - Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Electronic Magazine Culture and Development stated: “In our country, the press is a cultural product, also a political product, and cannot be used at all costs to generate revenue. All press agencies carry out dual tasks, whether the press agency is a public service unit with partial revenue or is completely autonomous, the most important task is to carry out political tasks according to the principles and purposes of the printed or electronic newspaper or magazine. That principle determines the position, function... of that press agency”.
Delegates attending the Workshop "Economic issues of journalism for scientific journals of the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations".
“Making money in journalism is a necessary need first and foremost for newspapers and magazines themselves and, furthermore, for the information and integration economy. However, it cannot be done at all costs, and certainly not in the way of “attracting readers by indulging all their needs, threatening to bargain; overcharging, providing opaque and vague information to arouse curiosity…” Journalist Vu Xuan Ban shared.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Ngoc Linh - Vice President of the Vietnam Union of Associations emphasized that the workshop discussed a number of contents on multi-platform digital transformation - a tool for developing the press economy; financial autonomy for press agencies: difficulties, challenges and solutions... This workshop will synthesize opinions to be sent to the Party and State authorities for consideration, especially the upcoming amendment of the 2016 Press Law to create conditions for the press in general, including the press system of the Union of Associations, to operate with legal sources of income, develop sustainably, and contribute practically to building and protecting the country in the digital age, the "explosion" of information.
