Honoring 135 outstanding intellectuals in the field of science

This year, 135 outstanding intellectuals in the field of science and technology will be honored to recognize their practical and effective contributions to the cause of industrialization - modernization of the country and international integration.

This morning (August 23), the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations (Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations - VUSTA) announced the honor of 135 outstanding science and technology (S&T) intellectuals in 2024.

Implementing the direction of the Politburo and the Secretariat, with the consensus of the Central Propaganda Department and the Central Emulation and Rewards Department, from 2015 to present, the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations has organized 4 ceremonies to honor outstanding science and technology intellectuals to recognize intellectuals with outstanding achievements, practical and effective contributions to the cause of industrialization - modernization of the country and international integration.

Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Ngoc Linh, Vice President of the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations, said that after more than 40 years of operation with the goal of gathering scientific intellectuals, throughout the journey of building and developing the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations, there have been many examples of creativity, scientific and technological research by Vietnamese intellectuals and overseas Vietnamese, contributing to the cause of building and developing the country's economy and society.

Overview of the press conference to inform about the 2024 Outstanding Science and Technology Intellectuals Honor Ceremony.

The activity of honoring outstanding scientific and technological intellectuals is considered a form of patriotic emulation, with great humanitarian significance, demonstrating the Party and State's concern, respect and treatment of intellectuals, while at the same time encouraging and recognizing individuals with many outstanding contributions to the cause of socio-economic development, national defense and security protection of the country in general and the development of the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations in particular.

This activity contributes to raising awareness of all levels, sectors and the whole society about the position and role of the scientific and technological intellectual team and the great contributions of the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations system to the cause of national construction and development.

MSc. Pham Huu Due, Head of the Organizing and Association Policy Department, Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations, said that through the previous 4 times of organization, Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations has honored 452 people. This year, 135 outstanding intellectuals will be honored.

Those selected for honor are intellectuals who have worked in research institutes, universities, enterprises, agencies of sectors, fields, localities and organizations in the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations system for 10 years or more, have scientific prestige, have made many practical and effective contributions, have influence on the development of the sector, agency, unit; are recognized by society, nominated by that agency, unit and introduced by agencies, units in the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations system.

Accordingly, among the 135 outstanding intellectuals honored in 2024 are:

- 51 intellectuals nominated by local associations, 54 intellectuals nominated by national industry associations, 28 intellectuals nominated by the Selection Council, 2 intellectuals nominated by the Central Office of the Vietnam Union of Intellectuals.

- 112 people have academic titles and degrees from associate professor, doctorate and equivalent or higher, 15 people have master's degrees, 8 people have bachelor's degrees and equivalent.

- 3 Labor Heroes.

The 5th ceremony to honor outstanding science and technology intellectuals in 2024 will be held on August 28 in Hanoi.
