The weather in Paris during the Olympic days was very fickle. There were many days when the mornings were scorchingly sunny, but in the afternoons there were continuous showers. There were days when the mornings had a steady drizzle that lasted until late at night, even as heavy as the opening ceremony. That was why the organizers had to constantly adjust the schedule and could not fix it as announced, especially for outdoor matches, most notably tennis and archery.
Anh Nguyet has more time off to compete again on August 1.
On the afternoon of July 31, the 1/32 round matches of the men's and women's single-string archery category were quite intense as each pair of archers competed extremely well in extremely hot weather. Suddenly, a few rain showers came and then quickly cleared, causing the weather to fluctuate. In that situation, the Organizing Committee only postponed the match a little bit and when it cleared up, the match was still held.
By 5:00 p.m. (French time), the weather was sunny and many matches were played, even an early match in the round of 16 between home archer Amilie Cordeau and a very strong British opponent Megs Havers, the organizers let the match take place right away amidst the cheers of a large crowd of excited fans.
However, right after this match, the sun suddenly stopped shining and it started to get dark. Normally, in summer in Paris, the sun sets around 9:30 pm, but at 7 pm, dark clouds were gathering. So, although there was still enough light to play, fearing rain and darkness would fall quickly, the organizers decided to postpone the remaining matches. The match between Do Thi Anh Nguyet and Mobina Fallah of Iran at 7:42 pm (0:42 am on August 1, Vietnam time) had to be postponed and the organizers will reschedule it later.
Anh Nguyet was ready but had to postpone due to weather.
Mr. Hoang Quoc Vinh, Head of High Performance Sports Department 1 of the Department of Sports and Physical Training, a member of the Vietnamese Sports Delegation, said: "Anh Nguyet has prepared carefully for this decisive match and the Vietnamese delegation is also waiting and hoping. The delay due to weather is unavoidable and we must respect the decision of the Organizing Committee, but this does not affect the mental preparation of our female archers too much."
So on August 1, both Vietnamese archers will compete. In addition to Anh Nguyet, Le Quoc Phong's match will be held in the evening, and it is not known whether it will be postponed due to the weather. Thanh Nien will continue to update the competition time of Vietnamese archers in Paris on August 1.
