The roads near Nguyen Hue walking street were congested for a long time, people struggled to find parking to enter the area where the countdown festival was taking place.
According to VTC News reporters, in the Ho Tung Mau and Ton That Thiep areas (District 1), parking lots were "full". Many people had to push their vehicles onto the sidewalk and walk a long distance to find a temporary place to park.
Many roads in the center of Ho Chi Minh City were jammed on the night of December 31.
People struggled to find parking spaces to get into the Countdown area.
Surveying a round of parking lots, reporters recorded parking prices ranging from 20,000 - 60,000 VND, an increase of 2 - 6 times. On normal days, parking prices in the Nguyen Hue walking street area are only 10,000 - 20,000 VND.
Mr. Duc (living in Binh Thanh District) said that he went to Ho Tung Mau Street to find a parking lot since 8:00 p.m., but it was very difficult to park because all the lots were overloaded. The parking lot staff refused to keep the car even though Mr. Duc agreed to pay a fee of up to 60,000 VND/time.
"I've been looking for a parking lot for more than 20 minutes but still can't find a spot. Some places charge 40,000 VND, others 60,000 VND. Even though I know it's much more expensive than usual, I still accept to pay because I'm going out for fun. Unfortunately, all the places are full," said Mr. Duc.
Ms. Cuc (living in Tan Phu district) shared that although she had been warned about the crowded situation and difficulty in finding a place to park her vehicle in advance, when she arrived at Nguyen Hue walking street, she did not expect it to be so difficult. After sweating to the third parking lot, Ms. Cuc was able to park her vehicle. The price she paid was 40,000 VND/time.

Also in the same situation of having to push his motorbike onto the sidewalk to find a parking space, Mr. Tuan (living in District 11) sighed and said that this was the first year he went to see Countdown on Nguyen Hue walking street with his family. After finding a parking space about 500m from the walking street, Mr. Tuan had to wait in line for 30 minutes.
" I know it will be very crowded today, but waiting to park like this is so tiring. The price is high and it takes a lot of time. However, because my wife and children love to watch the countdown, I'm still trying," Mr. Tuan added.
Meanwhile, an employee at a parking lot on Ho Tung Mau Street (District 1) appeared tired after having to work continuously since 2 p.m. This person said that there were currently more than 100 motorbikes in the parking lot, and in addition, there were still about 20 motorbikes waiting in line to enter the lot.
One resident said he waited 20 minutes for his turn to enter the parking lot.
On the evening of December 31, Ho Chi Minh City organized a program to welcome the New Year on Nguyen Hue walking street. The program had the participation of many famous singers and artists performing, so it attracted a lot of people to come and watch.
To ensure safety and serve people's entertainment, from 3:00 p.m. on December 31 to 1:00 a.m. on January 1, 2024, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport will prohibit all vehicles from entering Nguyen Hue Street (from Le Thanh Ton Street to Ton Duc Thang Street), District 1.
The Department of Transport notes that drivers need to follow the instructions of traffic control forces, traffic police or the instructions of the traffic sign system on the road.
