In the early morning of June 9, a landslide occurred in Luy Hamlet, Phuoc Lai Commune (Can Giuoc), causing five kiosks of two households to float into the river, causing initial damage of about 1.4 billion VND. The incident caused many cracks on Provincial Road 826C running along the river. If there are no protective measures, when the river recedes, the road will be at risk of landslides.

According to Mr. Vo Kim Thuan, Director of the Long An Department of Rural Development and Irrigation, this is the only route for thousands of households and transport businesses in 6 communes in Can Giuoc district. Currently, the authorities are temporarily restricting heavy trucks from passing through the landslide area.

Long An province currently has 4 particularly serious landslides in Can Giuoc, Tan Tru, Thanh Hoa and Tan Thanh districts. The locality has submitted to the Central Government for consideration of funding support of more than 1,300 billion VND to build 7 embankment projects to prevent riverbank landslides.

This morning in Dong Thap, a 30-meter landslide along the Nha Man - Tu Tai canal in Chau Thanh district caused a car repair shop and a fertilizer warehouse to slide into the river, causing an estimated half a billion VND in damage.

According to the fertilizer store owner, cracks appeared on the brick floor in the middle of the warehouse a few days ago. Suspecting a landslide, he and his neighbors moved their belongings outside to reduce the damage. The collapsed part of the structure was built with half on the shore and the floor above the water. Long cracks appeared on the warehouse wall, the possibility of landslide has not stopped. The authorities are helping people move their belongings and put up warning signs.
