Ba Ria - Vung Tau is a favorite destination in the second quarter

Ba Ria - Vung Tau became the most popular domestic destination in the second quarter of this year. Meanwhile, Thailand surpassed South Korea and Japan to become the most popular foreign destination for Vietnamese tourists.

For domestic destinations, with the highest voting rate of nearly 17%, Ba Ria - Vung Tau is also the province with the highest change in the voting rate of Vietnamese tourists in the ranking. Da Nang and Hanoi still maintain their positions as top 2 and 3. Although Da Nang has a change rate of 2.07%. In addition, Lam Dong province with the dreamy city of Da Lat with a change rate of 1.46% swapped with Ho Chi Minh City to become the 5th position in the ranking of the second quarter of 2023.

Regarding international destinations, in the first quarter, Vietnamese tourists loved and chose Korea and Japan as the two top destinations for their trips. In the second quarter of 2023, Thailand - the Land of the Golden Temple, from 4th place, unexpectedly took the lead, up 15.1% compared to the first quarter. Korea ranked 2nd, up slightly 0.5% compared to the first quarter. Japan and Singapore ranked 3rd, down 8.3% and 7.1% respectively compared to the voting rate in the first quarter of 2023.

Tied for third place, China surpassed the UK to be in the top 5 international destinations chosen by Vietnamese tourists the most. Compared to the previous quarter, Asian destinations have now captured the hearts and choices of Vietnamese tourists for their trips.

In the category of domestic airlines, Vietnam Airlines, the national airline of Vietnam, continues to dominate the rankings with nearly 45% of Vietnamese travelers choosing it, up 1.9% compared to the previous quarter. With diverse policies, communication activities, and international flight expansion, Vietjet Air achieved the most impressive change with 6.2% and maintained its 2nd position.

 

Although the change rate decreased by 1.1% compared to the previous quarter, Vietravel Airlines shortened the gap and surpassed Bamboo Airways, ranking 3rd among the most favorite airlines in the second quarter.

In the category of top travel agencies (TAs/TOs), in the second quarter of 2023, the two leading brands, Vietravel and Saigontourist, maintained their positions with changes of 1% and 1.3% respectively, accounting for nearly 50% of the total choices. Dat Viet Tour increased by 4.2% in the voting rate, tied for 3rd place with Hanoitourist, down 2%. Vietnambooking could not maintain its position in the top 5, instead, Vietnamtourism with a voting rate increase of 2.7%.

Early 2023 saw the return of online travel agencies (OTAs), one of the most trusted booking channels for Vietnamese tourists. International brands still dominate, but in the second quarter, Mytour excelled as the first and only Vietnamese brand to make it into the top 4 of the rankings. Despite a significant drop of more than 10%, Traveloka maintained its leading position with more than 30% of choices. Booking.com ranked second, down 3.2%, and Agoda ranked third, down 0.2%. Expedia ranked fifth, down 0.2%.

In the category of international hotel brands with the highest recognition among Vietnamese tourists, the voting rates of international hotels all decreased compared to the previous quarter. Still holding the top position, Novotel decreased slightly by 0.2% compared to the previous quarter. With a voting rate difference of less than 0.5%, Sheraton officially surpassed JW Marriott to become the top 2 most recognized hotels in Vietnam. The remaining two positions still belong to InterContinental and Pullman.

The results of this poll are based on data updated from the Vietnam Travel Market Tracker model, a model that tracks the travel behavior of Vietnamese tourists throughout the year. The order and brands mentioned in the ranking will be updated, entirely based on the choices of Vietnamese tourists over each period.
