Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta admitted he is still heartbroken after losing the Premier League title to Man City.

"I still feel heartbroken about that. We lost the Premier League title after 10 months of competing with Man City," Arteta told Marca on June 25. "But that's sport. Some people say it's commendable to do that with a young team like Arsenal, and I think so too."

Arsenal led the Premier League for 248 days before being overtaken by Man City. Pep Guardiola's men successfully defended their title and won the treble of the FA Cup and Champions League. Meanwhile, Arsenal have gone through a third consecutive season without a trophy since winning the 2019-20 FA Cup.

Since being appointed by the Emirates Stadium team in December 2019, Arteta has gradually helped the "Gunners" regain the image of a formidable team. The Spanish coach admitted that when he was Guardiola's assistant at Man City, he considered Arsenal a team that had lost its soul.

"At that time, Arsenal no longer had the joy of playing football, no emotions. Not long after, the opportunity to change my career opened up for me. I knew Arsenal was a big club and what you need is to connect the team with the fans. It was difficult but now, I can be happy with what I have done," Arteta commented.

Commenting on the collective in hand, Arteta said that Arsenal has found its identity, unity and energy. He believes that this is an important factor to change the club from top to bottom and guide everyone in the same direction.

Recently, there have been rumors that Arteta has been contacted by PSG to replace Christophe Galtier. During his playing days, the former Spanish midfielder played for PSG on loan for 18 months. However, he affirmed that he is happy at Arsenal and feels respected by the owners.

Arsenal will kick off the 2023-2024 Premier League season against Nottingham Forest on August 12.
