On October 14, the 28th Bay Nui bull racing festival took place in An Giang. The opening ceremony took place at Ta Pa - Soai Chek Sports and Tourism Area, Tri Ton District (An Giang).
The Bay Nui bull racing festival attracts foreign reporters to come and record and report.
This year, there are 56 pairs of oxen from localities in An Giang province, selected through previous rounds of competition.
After the draw, each pair of bulls competes in a knockout format, the winning pair will compete in the semi-finals and finals taking place on the same day.
According to Giao Thong Newspaper's reporter, many people came to watch and cheer for 56 pairs of oxen participating in the competition.
Mr. Ho Hien Sang (residing in Chau Thanh district, An Giang province) said: “The Bay Nui bull racing festival is held during the Sene Dolta festival of the Khmer ethnic group in the South (from August 29 to September 1 of the lunar calendar). That is the time when the Khmer people start preparing for the new rice crop. My family and I arrived very early to watch the pairs of bulls compete.”
Mr. Nguyen Van Len, Director of An Giang Radio and Television Station, said that the Bay Nui Bull Racing Festival is a unique agricultural festival of the Khmer ethnic minority.
“The festival not only shows the traditional cultural beauty imbued with humanity of the Khmer ethnic minority in the Bay Nui region, but is also a meaningful sports and entertainment playground for farmers after hours of hard work in the fields,” said Mr. Len.
