India vows to do 'everything possible' to resolve Ukraine crisis

AFP news agency reported on May 20 that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi pledged to do everything possible to resolve the Ukraine crisis, when he met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Hiroshima (Japan).

"I understand the pain of you and the people of Ukraine. I can assure you that to resolve this, India and I personally will do whatever is possible," Prime Minister Modi said.

On his Telegram account, President Zelensky "thanked India for supporting the territorial integrity and sovereignty of our country, especially in international organizations".

G7 about to embargo Russian diamonds?

The leader also thanked Prime Minister Modi for providing humanitarian aid to Ukraine, and invited India to join Kyiv's "peace formula" initiative.

Previously, President Zelensky unexpectedly arrived in Hiroshima on the afternoon of May 20 after receiving US support in calling on the West to provide modern fighter jets.

He took the opportunity to meet with leaders from developed countries, as well as invited developing countries, including India. The G7 includes Britain, Canada, Germany, the United States, Japan, France and Italy.

Prime Minister Modi thanked President Zelensky for helping Indian students after the war in Ukraine.

Earlier, the Ukrainian President held talks with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, whom he met only a few days ago, while touring Europe to rally support for the counterattack plan.

On Telegram, President Zelensky thanked Prime Minister Sunak "for Britain's leadership in the international fighter alliance".

In discussions with European Council President Charles Michel, Mr. Zelensky raised the issue of restrictions on Ukrainian agricultural exports and the unacceptable extension of these restrictions until June 5. The European Union (EU) has adopted a decision to ban the import of a number of Ukrainian products until June 5.

For his part, French President Emmanuel Macron welcomed Mr Zelensky's decision to come directly to the G7 summit, saying that the opportunity to interact with developed countries "can bring about great change".
