More than 2,900 students of Hanoi University of Science and Technology graduated in October, of which 79% had jobs before receiving their degrees with an average salary of about 11.5 million VND.
Associate Professor Nguyen Phong Dien, Vice President of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, announced the above information on the sidelines of the graduation ceremony for this batch of students, which took place on the afternoon of October 21.
According to Mr. Dien, of the more than 2,900 graduates, there are more than 1,100 engineers and nearly 1,800 bachelors. The number of excellent graduates is 208, accounting for 7%. The number of good graduates is 26%, good 62%, and the rest are average.
Survey on student employment, in addition to 79% who had jobs before receiving their degrees, 12% of this batch of graduates continued their studies at higher levels, and 9% are considering jobs.
Mr. Dien said that the large proportion of students who have jobs before receiving their degrees is thanks to the cooperation with businesses in training. This is a strategic policy of the school to improve the quality of training and increase the proportion of students who have jobs in the right field and profession after graduation.
"This and future graduating students will have early exposure to businesses through internship programs. They have the opportunity to become familiar with corporate culture from their third and fourth years, and have a lot of information to choose a suitable workplace right after graduation," said Mr. Dien, adding that the school will continue to improve student internship management to achieve greater efficiency.
Lai Ngoc Thang Long, a student majoring in Computer Science, graduated as valedictorian from Hanoi University of Science and Technology this year with a GPA of 3.93/4, also commented that participating in early internship programs introduced by the school created good momentum for his career path.
From his third year, Long participated in an internship program for talented students at Viettel, receiving a salary of about 40 million VND for three months of project work. After that, Long studied and worked for a big data company, before becoming a Data Science specialist at Techcombank in the second semester of his fourth year.
"The company lent me my diploma and I'm still working for this company," Long said. He did not disclose his salary details, but said his position was equivalent to that of someone with about 4 years of experience.

To the late graduates, Mr. Dien humorously said: "You have been attached to the school for a very long time, 6, 7, even 8 years. You have also succeeded and proven that you have the potential to become survival experts, able to escape from difficult situations, psychological inhibitions as well as difficulties in life."
For students who have not found jobs, Mr. Dien hopes they will soon find a suitable place to work.
"We have completed the first stage. A new stage is opening up before us. You will be ambassadors of Hanoi University of Science and Technology all over the world. You are the ones who will make the reputation of Hanoi University of Science and Technology in the future," said Mr. Dien.
