In the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2025-2026 school year, most provinces and cities across the country will choose English as the third subject.
The Vinh Phuc Department of Education and Training has just announced that it will not conduct a combined exam as previously planned, but will instead choose English as the third subject in the 10th grade entrance exam. The department has provided a knowledge scope and sample English exam with 40 questions, to be taken in 60 minutes. For each correct answer, the candidate will receive 0.25 points.
Thus, the majority of provinces and cities choose English as the third subject. Only Ha Giang and Binh Thuan choose History - Geography. In addition, there are 3 provinces and cities that choose to consider admission, including: Vinh Long, Gia Lai and Ca Mau.

The 10th grade exam for the 2025-2026 school year is the first year of enrollment according to the 2018 general education program. According to the regulations on enrollment in junior high school and high school issued by the Ministry of Education and Training (effective from February 14), there are 3 methods of enrollment in grade 10: entrance exam, admission review, or a combination of entrance exam and admission review. The selection of the enrollment method is under the authority of the locality.
Regarding the entrance exam method, the Ministry of Education and Training stipulates that there will be 3 exams, including: Math, Literature and a third exam or test selected by the Department of Education and Training. The third exam is selected from the subjects that are evaluated by scores in the general education program at the secondary level, ensuring that the same exam is not selected for more than 3 consecutive years.
For high schools under the Ministry of Education and Training, universities, colleges, and research institutes that organize their own entrance exams, the third exam subject or combined exam is selected by the Ministry of Education and Training, universities, colleges, and research institutes directly managed by them.
