VietNamNet•19/03/2024
On the evening of March 18, the US-ASEAN Business Council (USABC) held a press conference on the occasion of a visit by a high-level US business delegation. This is the largest US business delegation to Vietnam since the two countries upgraded their relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership in September 2023.
This year, the business delegation was led by former Ambassador Ted Osius, President and CEO of USABC. In addition, there were Mr. Marc Knapper - US Ambassador to Vietnam; Ms. Reta Jo Lewis - President and CEO of the US Export-Import Bank (US Eximbank); Ms. Sarah Morgenthau - Special Representative for Trade and Business, US Department of State and representatives of a number of US companies and corporations. According to USABC, from March 18-21, representatives of 50 US companies and corporations, including energy, technology, artificial intelligence (AI), defense, pharmaceuticals, etc., were present in Vietnam to discuss investment and business opportunities, according to the annual program organized by USABC.

Former Ambassador Ted Osius, President and CEO of USABC, assessed that this is an activity within the framework of the Vietnam - US comprehensive strategic partnership. The USABC President said that there are many opportunities for public and private cooperation between the two countries, from digital transformation, green transformation, net zero emissions, and activities to enhance Vietnam's production capacity... According to US Ambassador to Vietnam Marc Knapper, this year's US business delegation is very large and diverse. Businesses from both sides will promote each other's strengths, work together, and Vietnam's success is also the US's success. Assessing Vietnam in the new period, US Ambassador to Vietnam Marc Knapper said that Vietnam is playing an increasingly larger and more important role in the global supply chain. Vietnam is a major trading partner of the US and Vietnam has a dynamic economy. Mr. Marc Knapper said he was pleased to have the presence of Vietnamese enterprise VinFast in the US, a business that has developed production and created jobs in the US. Ms. Reta Jo Lewis - President and CEO of US Eximbank - shared that on the morning of March 18, US Eximbank signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Vietnam Development Bank (VDP), with a credit of 500 million USD to promote economic, trade and investment cooperation between the two countries, especially for projects promoting the green economic transition in Vietnam, infrastructure development projects, projects against climate change... Dr. Rafael Frankel, in charge of foreign affairs of Meta (Facebook's parent company), expressed optimism about the future of Vietnam's economy. According to him, Vietnam will become a new tiger, a dragon in the field of artificial intelligence (AI). Regarding US FDI capital in Vietnam, President and CEO of USABC Ted Osius predicted that there will be more FDI capital flows into Vietnam. Current FDI capital flows are not only reflected in statistics, but in reality, many American businesses invest in Vietnam through other countries, such as Coca Cola's investment in Vietnam from a company located in Singapore... Mr. Vu Tu Thanh, Deputy Regional Executive Director and Chief Representative in Vietnam of USABC, said that there are American corporations that do not invest money to set up factories in Vietnam, but they require suppliers, in fields such as leather shoes, to open factories in Vietnam, thereby creating an export value of tens of billions of USD. The cumulative figure of 11 billion USD of FDI capital in Vietnam does not fully reflect the importance of American partners.
Winning big in Europe and America, Vietnam has another impressive success
Despite being affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, Vietnam's shrimp exports have grown impressively. In particular, Vietnamese shrimp has also won big in the US and Europe (EU) when October exports to these two markets increased by 39% and 42%, respectively. Source
