Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) today (September 13) just released information saying that due to the impact of circulation after storm No. 3, a large amount of water has poured into hydroelectric reservoirs.

Hydroelectric reservoirs in the North are opening their sluice gates to regulate water levels under the direction of the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control and the Steering Committees for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control of provinces and cities.

Accordingly, the hydroelectric reservoirs: Lai Chau, Ban Chat, Huoi Quang, Son La, Hoa Binh have now closed all spillways according to the direction of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD).

The hydroelectric reservoirs that will discharge water at 9:00 a.m. on September 13 include: Tuyen Quang (2 gates), Thac Ba (3 gates), Trung Son (5 gates), and Ban Ve (4 gates).

At Tuyen Quang Hydropower Plant, the largest inflow to the lake was 6,966m3/s at 9:00 a.m. on September 9. Currently, the inflow to the lake has decreased to 1,623m3/s, the total discharge is 1,833m3/s, the upstream water level is 117.3m.

From 2:00 p.m. on September 8 to 3:00 p.m. on September 9, Tuyen Quang reservoir opened 8/8 bottom spillway gates according to the direction of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. Currently, the project has opened 2/8 spillway gates (6 spillway gates were closed at 8:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m. on September 10, at 8:00 a.m., 3:00 p.m., 8:00 p.m. on September 11 and at 2:00 p.m. on September 12).

At Thac Ba Hydropower Plant, the maximum flow into the lake was 5,620m3/s at 9:00 a.m. on September 10. Currently, the flow into the lake has decreased to 1,930m3/s, the total discharge is 2,960m3/s, the upstream water level has decreased to 58.9m.

Thac Ba Reservoir has opened 3/3 of its spillway gates according to the direction of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Regarding the restoration of medium and low voltage grid operations and power supply to customers, as of the morning of September 12, the electricity sector has restored power supply to nearly 5.63 million customers out of a total of about 6.1 million customers affected by storms and floods (equivalent to a rate of more than 92%).

Power units in the North continue to urgently mobilize human resources, vehicles, materials and equipment to make efforts to overcome the consequences of natural disasters, restore power supply to customers affected by storms and floods in the fastest time possible, but still have to ensure safety requirements.

To join in overcoming the consequences of natural disasters and urgently restore power supply to customers affected by storms and floods; the Central Power Corporation has decided to send 273 engineers and skilled workers (from 6 power companies including Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue, Da Nang, Quang Nam and Quang Ngai) to Quang Ninh province to support the restoration of the power grid.
