On November 4, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Duong Anh Duc inspected the project to build a new Hoc Mon Regional General Hospital, and listened to reports on two other gateway hospital projects, Cu Chi Regional General Hospital and Thu Duc Regional General Hospital.
According to the report of the Management Board of Investment and Construction Projects for Civil and Industrial Works of Ho Chi Minh City, Hoc Mon Regional General Hospital started construction on January 20, 2020. This gateway hospital project has a total basic construction investment of VND 1,824 billion with a total floor area of 72,393 m2 and is expected to be completed in 2023.
When completed, Hoc Mon Regional General Hospital will have a scale of 1,000 beds, phase 1 will have 500 modern, high-quality beds; there will be a block of clinics, specialized departments with advanced medical equipment, including 20 modern operating rooms.
The hospital has a helipad on the 12th floor to accommodate air ambulances. In addition, the hospital project also creates land to build an additional 500 inpatient beds when expansion is needed.

Thu Duc Regional General Hospital started construction on November 15, 2021. This gateway hospital project has a total investment of VND 1,915 billion, the technical infrastructure scale meets 1,000 beds, phase 1 scale is 500 beds. The project has 1 basement, 10 floors above ground, total construction area of 78,281 m2 , expected to be completed in 2023.
According to the report, the Thu Duc City Gateway Hospital project faced difficulties due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic at the end of 2021, the high price of materials due to the political impact in the world in 2022 and the relocation of the clinic block during construction. In addition, many materials and equipment used for the project are imported from abroad, so the time for ordering, manufacturing and transporting to Vietnam takes an average of 8-12 months for each type of equipment, so the progress is affected. Therefore, the project completion schedule has been adjusted to 2024.
On January 15, 2015, the Cu Chi Regional General Hospital project also started. This gateway hospital project has a scale of 1,000 beds, the first phase has 500 beds, the total investment is 1,854 billion VND and is expected to be completed in 2023, but has now been adjusted to 2024.
Currently, the Cu Chi gateway hospital project is stuck in the land clearance of 3 households. This project is also facing similar difficulties as the Thu Duc Regional General Hospital project.
At the inspection, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Duong Anh Duc directed to speed up the construction progress and complete the 3 gateway hospital projects on time. According to the leader of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, the city and the Central Government have devoted large resources to the 3 gateway hospitals because the work of protecting and taking care of people's health is extremely important. These 3 gateway hospitals not only play a role in taking care of the health of people in the city but also in the surrounding areas.
On the same day, Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Duong Anh Duc also inspected the investment project to build the City Planning Exhibition Center (Thu Duc City) and the project Project to build Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine (2nd campus in Binh Chanh District).
