On August 10, the Department of Preventive Medicine (Ministry of Health) sent a document to the Directors of the Department of Health of provinces and cities across the country regarding strengthening the prevention and control of dengue fever.
According to the Department of Preventive Medicine, according to reports from localities, since the beginning of the year, the country has recorded 57,295 cases of dengue fever, including 13 deaths. Although the number of cases and deaths has decreased compared to the same period in 2022, it has tended to increase in recent weeks.
It is currently the epidemic season, and the number of weekly infections is expected to increase in the coming time if drastic measures are not taken to prevent the epidemic.
To proactively implement epidemic prevention measures, prevent the epidemic from breaking out and spreading, and minimize the number of infections and deaths, the Department of Preventive Medicine requests the Director of the Department of Health to closely monitor the situation of patients in the area, grasp existing and newly emerging dengue fever outbreaks, thoroughly handle outbreaks as soon as they are detected, and prevent the epidemic from breaking out, spreading, and prolonging.
Organize more strongly the implementation of environmental sanitation campaigns, mosquito larvae eradication to prevent dengue fever in the area and maintain activities once a week in high-risk areas, once every 2 weeks in areas with high mosquito, mosquito larvae/larva index and once a month in the remaining areas.
Organize well the admission and treatment of patients, minimizing deaths due to dengue fever.
Closely coordinate with the Department of Information and Communications, local media agencies to carry out propaganda activities so that people actively respond to disease prevention measures for individuals and communities, proactively participate in cleaning up waste items containing stagnant water, where larvae and mosquitoes develop, cover tightly and release fish into tanks and containers containing domestic water.
Provinces and cities need to strengthen the system of officials working on insect prevention at the provincial and district levels. Organize active insect monitoring at all levels to detect early areas at risk for timely handling;
Organize training on patient monitoring, insect monitoring, and outbreak management for preventive health workers. Provide training on treatment regimens and emergency patient management for health workers at all levels.
The Department of Health of provinces and cities directs medical examination and treatment facilities to organize the admission and treatment of patients well, minimizing deaths due to dengue fever, especially at private medical examination and treatment facilities, avoiding the situation where patients do not receive timely consultation, emergency care, treatment and referral. At the same time, there is a plan to allocate treatment routes, support lower levels, and avoid hospital overload.
At the same time, the Department of Health of provinces and cities organized working groups to inspect and supervise dengue fever prevention and control work at hotspots and areas at risk of outbreaks in the area, and support lower levels in disease prevention and control work.
The Department of Health of provinces and cities also needs to report to the Provincial People's Committee to arrange and supplement funding for dengue fever prevention work to implement dengue fever prevention activities in the province .
