This morning, December 31, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City held a review of 10 years of implementing the work of nurturing, caring for and educating children aged 6-18 months in Ho Chi Minh City.

In the 2014-2015 school year, Ho Chi Minh City was the first locality in the country to pilot the admission of children from 6 months to 18 months old at 13 kindergartens in 8 districts: District 7, District 12, Binh Tan District, Tan Phu District, Thu Duc District (Thu Duc City had not yet been established), Binh Chanh District, Nha Be District and Cu Chi District. Each district piloted 1 to 2 public kindergartens.
In the 2015-2016 school year, the care and nurturing of children aged 6-18 months was expanded to 4 more districts: District 9, District 11, Go Vap District and Tan Binh District.
The Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City said that up to now, the implementation of care, nurturing and education of children aged 6-18 months has been carried out in nearly 100% of districts and Thu Duc City, but has not been implemented in District 4.
From the first 13 kindergartens, by the 2024-2025 school year, Ho Chi Minh City will have a total of 241 preschools that take care of, nurture, and educate children aged 6-18 months. Of these, 133 are public facilities; 58 are non-public facilities, and 50 are independent childcare groups.

"The above figures show that the need for childcare from a young age is increasing among the people. The reception of children from 6-18 months old has been carried out in 20/21 districts, towns and Thu Duc City through various types of preschool education facilities. The number of schools, classes and children has increased; on average each group has 12 children; the number of teachers/child is ensured according to regulations and there is 1 caregiver. Teachers meet professional standards and have experience in nurturing, caring for and educating children in kindergartens," said Ms. Luong Thi Hong Diep, Head of the Preschool Education Department of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training.

Ms. Chau affirmed that in the coming time, Ho Chi Minh City will continue to maintain and improve the quality of the implementation of the program of nurturing, caring for and educating children from 6 to 18 months old and ensure the safety of children from 6 to 18 months old at preschools, and implement policies for preschool teachers. All of this is to encourage and attract teachers to take on the task of nurturing, caring for and educating children from 6 to 18 months old, meeting the general development requirements of preschool education.

Ms. Chau said that in order to promote strengths and overcome difficulties in the care and education classes for children aged 6-18 months, preschool education also needs to regularly organize experience sharing sessions and increase professional training courses for staff, teachers and caregivers. To make learning more practical, it is necessary to allow preschool managers and teachers to visit model schools, exchange and share child care and education work at home and abroad.
