After nearly half a year of launching, the Press Award "For the cause of developing culture, sports and tourism" launched by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has attracted the largest number of works ever, with 1,079 works.

On the afternoon of August 3, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism opened the preliminary round of the first National Press Award "For the cause of developing culture, sports and tourism".
Immediately after being launched on December 26, 2022, the National Press Award "For the cause of developing culture, sports and tourism" received positive responses from journalists and members of the Vietnam Journalists Association across the country. According to the rules, works participating in the award must be published and broadcast on various types of press: print newspapers, electronic newspapers, radio, television, and photo newspapers, from June 15, 2022 to June 30, 2023.
The organizers said they received a total of 1,079 entries. This is a large number of entries, especially for a first-year industry journalism award.
Of these, there are 344 works in print journalism; 299 works in electronic journalism; 89 works in radio journalism; 201 works in television journalism; and 94 works in photojournalism.
After synthesizing, the Secretariat - Synthesis Subcommittee reviewed, screened and eliminated 52 works that violated the award rules (mainly violations regarding publication time, number of works, etc.).
The preliminary council was established with 5 sub-committees: Print, Electronic, Radio, Television and Photojournalism.
The Preliminary Council has been evaluating, discussing and awarding prizes independently since July 25, 2023 and is expected to conclude the preliminary round on August 10, 2023.
The expected number of works selected for the final round by genre is as follows: 35 works for print newspapers; 30 works for electronic newspapers; 20 works for radio; 30 works for television; and 15 works for photojournalism.
The Organizing Committee plans to award collective and individual prizes. Accordingly, the collective prize will be awarded to 3 press agencies with many works participating in the contest with high results. Individual prizes include: 1 First prize, 3 Second prizes, 5 Third prizes, 10 Encouragement prizes for each press category.
At the opening ceremony of the preliminary round, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Trinh Thi Thuy highly appreciated the large participation of press agencies in many genres, especially photojournalism. Many cultural, sports and tourism activities across the country were vividly reflected in the entries.
Contributing to the judging process, journalist Nguyen Minh Duc, Editor-in-Chief of Hanoi Moi Newspaper, Deputy Head of the Printed Newspaper Subcommittee, highly appreciated the quality of the entries and affirmed that the Jury will judge the entries based on accuracy, investment and clear messages contributing to the development of culture, sports and tourism.
The award ceremony is expected to take place in September 2023, in Hanoi.
