National Competition Commission asks Vietnam Airlines to provide information on airfares
The document was signed by Ms. Nguyen Thi Quynh Oanh, Vice Chairwoman of the National Competition Commission, Deputy Director of the Department of Competition and Consumer Protection (Ministry of Industry and Trade), sent to the leaders of Vietnam Airlines with 6 requests.
Specifically, the National Competition Commission requested Vietnam Airlines to provide information on prices and airfare adjustments for domestic flights in all ticket classes and types from January 1 to present.
Information on quantity and revenue of domestic air tickets sold in all ticket classes and types in the first 4 months of the year.
The National Competition Commission requested Vietnam Airlines to provide information on the formula for calculating domestic airfares for all ticket classes and types.
Information on costs and cost fluctuations of ticket price components and explanation of reasons for airfare price increases, with supporting documents.
Vietnam Airlines is also required to provide information and documents related to the reasons for increasing airfares to the National Competition Commission before June 4.
Previously, on May 17, Thanh Nien Newspaper organized a discussion on "Can airfares be cooled down?". According to the delegates, only airlines benefit from high airfares. Meanwhile, the tourism industry in many localities is severely affected by the lack of visitors during the peak tourist season.
Regarding this issue, the Ministry of Transport recently directed the Civil Aviation Authority and airlines to have a plan to reduce domestic airfares.
In particular, the Civil Aviation Authority strengthens inspection of compliance with laws on ticket sales, declaration and listing of airfares by airlines.
The Ministry of Transport requested the Civil Aviation Authority to urgently study and propose solutions and policies to reduce prices for domestic air passenger transport services, on the principle of harmonizing interests between the State, businesses and customers.
