The Minister of Education and Training requested that educational institutions not arrange or organize for students to participate in educational and extracurricular activities during times of intense heat.

On May 19, the Minister of Education and Training issued a dispatch to the Director of the Department of Education and Training on ensuring safety for staff, teachers, students and responding to heat waves at educational institutions.

The dispatch stated that recently, in the Northern and Central provinces from Thanh Hoa to Phu Yen, there has been a prolonged heat wave, with outdoor temperatures reaching over 40 degrees Celsius in some areas.

The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting predicts that in the next few days, the weather will continue to be hot and extremely hot, with some places being especially hot, affecting people's production activities and the implementation of educational activities at educational institutions.

According to the school year time frame decision of the Ministry of Education and Training, at this time, educational institutions nationwide are preparing to complete the 2022-2023 school year; especially for students in grades 9 and 12, they are focusing on reviewing and preparing for the entrance exam to grade 10 of high school and the high school graduation exam in 2023.

To ensure the safety of staff, teachers and students performing their learning tasks and organizing educational activities at educational institutions, the Minister of Education and Training requested the Directors of the Departments of Education and Training of provinces and centrally-run cities to direct educational institutions to focus on implementing a number of tasks to respond to the heat.

Educational institutions proactively adjust school education plans, arrange reasonable timetables, prioritizing early morning time slots to organize teaching of subjects and outdoor educational activities to ensure safety for teachers and students; do not arrange or organize for students to participate in educational activities and extracurricular activities during times of intense heat .

At the same time, educational institutions shall organize the review, repair, supplement, and replacement of damaged electrical equipment in classrooms such as electric fans, air conditioners, and ventilation fans; increase the shading of classrooms in the afternoon or afternoon; open windows for ventilation if the outside temperature is equal to or lower than that in the classroom; direct educational institutions to increase drinking water to ensure hygiene and safety for teachers and students in classrooms.

Educational institutions coordinate with the electricity sector to provide adequate and timely electricity to schools, especially kindergartens and primary schools with boarding and semi-boarding students; coordinate with the health sector to organize propaganda and education for students on protecting and taking care of their own health, ensuring proper nutrition and preventing and fighting epidemics during hot days.

The Ministry of Education and Training also requires promoting propaganda and education to raise awareness among officials, teachers and students about saving electricity; turning off lights and unnecessary devices.

At the same time, educational institutions coordinate with parents, local authorities and organizations in managing and educating students about drowning prevention, especially in locations with potential drowning risks./.
