Yen Bai: The project to support equipment for a number of ethnic minority schools will be implemented as planned.

(People's life) - Comrade Vu Thi Hien Hanh - Vice Chairman of Yen Bai Provincial People's Committee pledged to direct the Department of Education and Training and the units benefiting from the Project "Supporting equipment for some ethnic boarding and semi-boarding schools in Yen Bai province" to effectively manage and use equipment to ensure efficiency and compliance with regulations.

On September 11, Ms. Vu Thi Hien Hanh - Vice Chairman of Yen Bai Provincial People's Committee had a working session with the delegation of KOICA Vietnam Office on the implementation of the Project "Supporting equipment for some ethnic boarding and semi-boarding schools in Yen Bai province" funded by the Korean government through the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).

During the 2018-2020 period, Yen Bai province received the Project "Improving school readiness and learning outcomes for ethnic minority children" funded by the Korean Government through KOICA and Save the Children International in Vietnam for 14 kindergartens and primary schools in Van Chan and Mu Cang Chai districts with a total implementation cost of over 27 billion VND. The success of the Project has contributed to improving the overall quality of education for schools participating in the Project.

In 2023, through KOICA and the Ethnic Committee, the Korean Government continues to provide a non-refundable aid package worth 500,000 USD for ethnic boarding and semi-boarding schools in Yen Bai province.

Accordingly, 8 ethnic minority boarding schools and Mo De Primary and Secondary Boarding School of Yen Bai province will be invested with additional equipment for teaching and learning, contributing to the implementation of the 2018 General Education Program, improving the quality of education, and improving the learning environment for students.

Specifically, the Ethnic Minority and Boarding Schools that are beneficiaries of the project will receive computer lab equipment for 9 rooms, 53 85-inch TVs; 50 laptops, projectors, electric projectors, air conditioners, and HDMI cables.

Based on the memorandum of understanding between the Yen Bai Provincial People's Committee, the Ethnic Minorities Committee and the Korea International Cooperation Agency and the sponsorship letter from the Korea International Cooperation Agency, the Provincial People's Committee has directed the Department of Education and Training to draft the document and seek opinions from relevant units. Up to now, Yen Bai province has completed the consultation with 03 Ministries (Ministry of Planning and Investment, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Education and Training) and assigned the Department of Education and Training to receive, complete the document, and submit it for approval before September 30, 2023.

Speaking at the meeting, Ms. Yoo Soo Yeon - Deputy Director of KOICA Vietnam Office acknowledged the coordination of Yen Bai province in the implementation of projects since 2018. After 3 years of implementing the project funded by KOICA, together with the efforts of the local education and training sector, it has contributed to improving the quality of local education.

Ms. Yoo Soo Yeon hopes that the People's Committee of Yen Bai province will direct the Department of Education and Training and relevant units to closely coordinate with KOICA to effectively implement the commitments of both sides; in the immediate future, support the improvement of facilities at schools that do not meet the conditions, mainly the conditions of electricity systems and internet connections to install equipment under the project.

On behalf of the leaders of Yen Bai Provincial People's Committee, Ms. Vu Thi Hien Hanh sincerely thanked the Korean Embassy in Vietnam and KOICA Vietnam for their attention and valuable aid to Yen Bai province in the past time. She also thanked the Ethnic Committee for connecting and orienting non-governmental funding projects to ethnic minority groups in Yen Bai province.

At the same time, coordinate with the contractor to properly receive and hand over the equipment, coordinate with the KOICA Vietnam Office to carefully organize the equipment handover ceremony on November 20, 2023 at the Provincial Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities.
