* Pakistan has launched a new offensive against separatist rebels in the southwestern province of Balochistan, home to key projects under China’s Belt and Road initiative. (Reuters)

* South Korea, the United States and Japan have established a trilateral cooperation secretariat, a mechanism for these countries to enhance coordination and cooperation to respond to common challenges, including military threats from North Korea. Each country will take turns serving as secretary-general, starting with South Korea, followed by the United States and Japan.
