According to data released by the State Customs Service of Ukraine, the country's flat steel exports increased by 65.1% in the first nine months of 2024, reaching 1.297 million tons.
In the period from January to September 2024, Ukrainian steel companies recorded impressive growth in the export of flat steel products, with an increase of 65.1% compared to the same period in 2023, reaching a total volume of 1.297 million tons. This data was released by the State Customs Service of Ukraine.
Among the exported products, hot-rolled flat steel (HS 7208) accounted for the largest proportion, reaching 1.1 million tons, up 86.3% over the previous year. In the past 9 months, the Polish market received 405.2 thousand tons of products, followed by Bulgaria with 277.35 thousand tons and Italy with 107.14 thousand tons.

In addition, Ukraine also exported 148.9 thousand tons of flat cold-rolled products (HS 7209), down slightly by 1.2% year-on-year. Most of these products were shipped to Poland (61.09 thousand tons), Bulgaria (21.79 thousand tons) and Italy (11.25 thousand tons). In addition, coated cold-rolled products (HS 7210) recorded an export volume of 38.8 thousand tons, down 5.7% year-on-year, of which 29.94 thousand tons were exported to Poland, 5.7 thousand tons to Romania and 1.75 thousand tons to Moldova.
In particular, in September 2024, flat steel product exports from Ukraine increased by 11.8% over the previous month and by 12.6% over September 2023, reaching 178.82 thousand tons. Of which, hot-rolled flat steel product exports increased by 8.7% over the previous month and 19.9% over the same period last year, reaching 151.91 thousand tons. In contrast, cold-rolled flat steel products decreased by 39.3% over the same period in 2023, reaching only 17.63 thousand tons, while coated flat steel products increased sharply by 33.2% over the previous month and 84.4% over the previous year, reaching 5.49 thousand tons.
In terms of export revenue, the total value of flat products in the first 9 months of 2024 reached 805.44 million USD, up 47.1% over the same period last year. In September alone, export revenue also increased by 17.7% over the previous month and 21.5% over the same period last year, to 115.82 million USD.
According to the GMK Center report, in 2023, Ukraine's flat steel exports decreased by 26.4% compared to 2022, to 1.202 million tons. Export revenue also decreased by 42.2%, to only 782.3 million USD.
