Mr. Phan Quoc Nam - Sales Director of Blue Ocean JSC - said that with more than 1.5 tons of passion fruit exported to the Australian market this time, Blue Ocean JSC has been marked as the first Vietnamese unit to export passion fruit to the Australian market.

In order for fresh passion fruit to be exported to Australia, it is necessary to establish a growing area, growing area code, and packaging facility code approved by the Plant Protection Department, and have inspection and supervision from the partner. At the same time, the production stage must ensure the process, standards, and comply with biosecurity requirements.

Previously, on October 15, a refrigerated truck carrying 2,700 fresh Vietnamese coconuts cleared customs and entered China smoothly through the Hekou border gate in Yunnan province (China), adjacent to the Lao Cai border gate (Vietnam). This shipment of fresh coconuts had a total weight of 21.6 tons, worth 110,000 yuan (about 15,000 USD), and was the first shipment of fresh Vietnamese coconuts imported by road into China.

Previously, on October 15, a shipment of fresh Vietnamese coconuts, weighing 22.4 tons and worth 98,000 yuan (about 14,000 USD), was transported to the Youyiguan border gate in Pingxiang City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and cleared customs into the Chinese market after passing inspection requirements. This is the first time fresh Vietnamese coconuts have been cleared through the Guangxi border gate into China after being licensed to open the market by the country's authorities since last August.

The first batches of fresh Vietnamese coconuts exported to the Chinese market all originated from Ben Tre . This is the latest achievement of the two countries in promoting the import and export of high-quality agricultural products, deepening trade cooperation, in order to implement the spirit of the Joint Statements reached between the two sides in recent times.

According to data from the General Department of Customs, Vietnam's fruit and vegetable export turnover has continuously recorded new record highs. In September 2024, Vietnam's fruit and vegetable export turnover reached 917.25 million USD, up 8.7% over the previous month and 37.6% over the same period last year. In the first 9 months of 2024, our country's fruit and vegetable export turnover reached 5.64 billion USD, up 33.9% over the same period last year.

This is the highest export value ever of the Vietnamese fruit and vegetable industry. In addition to durian, which has continuously grown, bananas, coconuts, dragon fruit and mangoes are other products with spectacular growth rates.

Exports likely to exceed target

It is worth mentioning that in the first 9 months of 2024, agricultural production in general faced many difficulties, in which storm No. 3 caused damage to many factories' raw material areas. However, businesses in this industry all recorded growth in export turnover.

Ms. Ngo Thi Thu Hong - General Director of Ameii Vietnam Joint Stock Company - shared that due to the impact of storm No. 3, the entire raw material area of the enterprise was lost. Currently, the enterprise is switching to purchasing raw materials in localities not affected by the storm. Therefore, after 9 months, the enterprise's exports still increased by 30% compared to the same period last year.

As a fruit exporter to major markets, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Tung - General Director of Vina T&T Company - said that the company's orders are continuous and highly stable. The results are from the company's association with farmers, growing areas and stable sources of goods, so when facing difficulties, Vina T&T can still ensure supply.

Last August, the US Department of Agriculture and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development completed the technical negotiations and moved on to legal procedures to allow the import of Vietnamese passion fruit. Thus, Vietnam has been allowed to export 8 types of fruit to the US market, including dragon fruit, mango, longan, lychee, rambutan, star apple, grapefruit, coconut and soon passion fruit.

After efforts to negotiate and open the market, with close coordination between the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Australian Ministry of Agriculture, Vietnam has now been allowed to officially export mangoes, longans, lychees, dragon fruits and passion fruits to the Australian market.

To the Chinese market, Vietnam has officially exported 12 types of fruit including: durian, dragon fruit, banana, mango, jackfruit, lychee, longan, rambutan, mangosteen, star apple, coconut, passion fruit.

Mr. Hoang Trung - Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development - emphasized that we need to approach every opportunity to expand the market. Accordingly, for markets that have been opened, we need to maintain and expand market share there. At the same time, we need to speed up the opening of markets for some types of fruit that Vietnam has an advantage in exporting.

According to Deputy Minister Hoang Trung, once fruits have entered the US market, we are not afraid of any market. Currently, other markets such as China, Japan, Korea, Taiwan (China), New Zealand, Australia, EU… have demand for any product, we can meet it.

Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable exports are forecast to continue to grow in the last months of the year thanks to seasonal factors. In addition, Vietnam’s fruit and vegetables are increasingly asserting their position in markets such as the United States, China, South Korea, etc. In particular, Chinese consumers increasingly favor Vietnamese durian, banana, lychee, longan, jackfruit, mango, and watermelon, thanks to the quality and unique flavor of tropical fruits.

2023 is considered a record year for the fruit and vegetable industry when export turnover reaches 5.69 billion USD, an increase of nearly 70% compared to the previous year. From positive signals from the market, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development forecasts that in 2024, the fruit and vegetable industry will continue to receive new records, growing at 15 - 20% compared to 2023, equivalent to 6.5 - 7 billion USD if taking advantage of the opportunity...

And with the optimistic developments from the market as well as the results achieved by the end of the third quarter of 2024, experts believe that fruit and vegetable exports for the whole year of 2024 will reach and exceed 7 billion USD, exceeding the set target.
