This morning, July 1, Mr. Tran Dang Hung, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Thanh An Commune, Cam Lo District, Quang Tri Province, said that in the past week, in the fields of Phu Ngan and An Binh villages, Thanh An Commune, a large flock of swallows (also known as snail storks) appeared to feed and take shelter.

This flock of storks often comes to the rice fields in Thanh An commune and neighboring areas with a number of 200 - 300 individuals. The storks gather in large flocks or small flocks to forage in the rice fields during the day, their main food being golden apple snails; in the evening, the storks gather to roost in the cajuput forest or swamps in the surrounding area.
This is a bird species listed in the Vietnam Red Book, a rare species that needs to be protected. Five years ago, a large flock of swallows appeared in this area.
“To protect the flock of storks, the local government has asked villages and organizations to increase propaganda to raise people’s awareness of protecting migratory birds in general and storks in particular. Do not organize trapping or capturing in any form; regularly patrol, detect, promptly prevent and strictly handle acts of hunting, trading, transporting and consuming wild animals,” Mr. Hung added.
