Providing plant seeds to support Lao Cai in restoring production

Specifically, the Deputy Prime Minister assigned the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to provide 80.48 tons of rice seeds, 8.81 tons of corn seeds and 0.25 tons of vegetable seeds from the national reserve to support Lao Cai province in restoring production due to the impact of storm No. 3.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Ministry of Finance shall handle specifically according to regulations; be responsible for information and reported data.

Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee is responsible for the accuracy of the reported data and for receiving, allocating and using the above mentioned crop seeds promptly and in accordance with regulations.

Previously, Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc also signed Decision 984/QD-TTg to support Lao Cai province with 150 billion VND from the central budget reserve in 2024 to overcome the consequences of storm No. 3 and stabilize people's lives.

* Due to the impact of storm No. 3 and its circulation from the night of September 7 to September 12, 2024, Lao Cai province experienced moderate to heavy rain over a wide area; deep flooding, flash floods, and landslides, causing very serious damage to people and infrastructure of the State and the People. Estimated economic damage is nearly 6,688 billion VND.

Agricultural production suffered great damage to crops, livestock, aquaculture, and barns. Of which, nearly 808 hectares of rice fields were eroded and buried in rocks and soil, unable to be restored and must be renovated to continue production.

According to data up to 5:00 p.m. on September 26, 2024, Lao Cai had 132 deaths, 86 injured people were taken to emergency and free medical treatment at provincial and district hospitals. To date, 49 people have been discharged from the hospital, their health is stable. For the 19 missing cases, local authorities, local people and relatives are continuing to search.

11,144 houses were flooded, landslides, floods swept away, subsided, and ancillary structures were damaged; of which 955 houses were completely damaged by >70%. By September 26, households with slightly damaged houses had basically been repaired and returned to their original residences; households with severe damage are continuing to repair. Currently, many households with >70% damage are still staying with relatives, in combined community shelters (People's Committee headquarters, medical stations, schools, cultural houses, etc.).
