Mr. Vu Anh Khoa (40 years old, residing in Phuong Khoan commune, Song Lo district, Vinh Phuc province) has a serious blood disease that has left his legs disabled. The disease has followed Mr. Khoa since birth. Mr. Khoa's family is one of the households with special circumstances in the locality .

Visiting Mr. Khoa's family, we were heartbroken to see the image of a 40-year-old man with a gentle face leaning on crutches, dragging his disabled legs to do some simple chores around the house. Since birth, the doctor diagnosed Mr. Khoa and his younger brother with "D66 - Hereditary Factor VIII Deficiency" which is a blood disease, blood-forming organ and immune-related disorders that causes the legs to gradually shrink, the bones and muscles to stiffen, unable to flex and extend, making it very difficult to move. Not only that, every time the weather changes, the bodies and legs of the two brothers ache.

Sharing with PV Dan Viet, Mr. Khoa said that many years ago, out of love for his children, his parents moved to the South to live in the hope that the change in environment, weather, and climate would help ease their children's pain. However, the health of the two brothers did not improve, and Mr. Khoa's younger brother passed away, so his parents decided to return to their homeland.

The long-term, persistent illness not only directly affects the health but also the life of Mr. Khoa's family. On the porch, his little daughter Vu Ngoc Tra, who is just starting first grade this year, clings to her father with naive, yet heartbreaking questions: "Dad, why is your leg not getting better..." Looking at his daughter, Mr. Vu's eyes filled with tears, he patted the little girl's head and choked up saying: "Dad is fine, his leg is almost healed."

Many years ago, Mr. Khoa had a happy family with 3 children. His family life was basically stable because he received monthly social benefits and had health insurance to support each time he had a blood transfusion at the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion; his wife worked as a factory worker, with a low but stable income. Along with that, his mother worked as a maid, his father worked as a farmer and a construction worker to earn extra income to support the couple.

However, more than 3 years ago, his family encountered many changes when the couple went their separate ways, the 3 children lived with him and their grandparents; at the same time, Khoa's mother was diagnosed with cancer; his son who was in middle school also had to drop out of school.

Loving his elderly parents and children, Mr. Khoa tried to cope with the pain caused by the disease, working as a barber. Mr. Khoa's shop is only about 15 square meters, lent by his neighbors to cover living expenses, this is also the place that generates a small income to support his children and pay for his monthly medical treatment.

The small shop's main income is from regular customers who come to support it. However, Mr. Khoa's health is unstable, so the shop is "open one day and closed the next".

The road from his house to the shop is only a few hundred meters but it is still a big challenge for Mr. Khoa. Every day, he still has to ask for help from his father to get to the shop.

Life is difficult but Mr. Khoa is always optimistic because he has his little daughter and relatives to encourage and love him. Mr. Khoa said that he himself has often sat alone in his room, closed the door and shed tears thinking about his current life. However, after each time he cried, his little daughter seemed to find out and asked him: "Why are your eyes so red... I love you, Dad...". Each time like that, he swallowed his tears, encouraging himself that no matter how hard it is, he must endure it, and must try harder for his children.

Life was difficult but full of love in the small house. But recently, Khoa's mother's cancer entered the final stage, her health weakened, causing the family to run around to find treatment. After a long period of treatment, Khoa's mother passed away, leaving behind a debt of hundreds of millions of dong on the shoulders of her filial son and her hard-working father.

Having just finished arranging the funeral for his unfortunate wife, Mr. Vu Xuan Lung (66 years old, Khoa's father) still could not believe that the person he had shared a bed with for decades had left him. Looking at his sick son and his young grandchildren, he could not hold back his tears.

Mr. Lung said that before his wife was still healthy, the couple tried to work hard to support their son financially . Although they were not well-off, life was considered stable. However, when Mr. Khoa's family encountered a crisis, he was also devastated when he received the news that his wife had cancer. "Since then, every penny I earned has been spent to take care of my wife and my children's education. Now I have to shoulder a huge debt."

Regarding Mr. Khoa's family situation, the representative of the commune government said that Mr. Khoa's family is one of the families with special circumstances in the locality. Mr. Vu Xuan Lung - Mr. Khoa's father is past working age but still has to shoulder the burden of worrying about the family's economy when Mr. Khoa's health is not guaranteed. The local government and organizations regularly visit, give gifts and call for help from kind-hearted people. The locality always ensures the support policies of the Party and State for Mr. Khoa's family. Hopefully, kind-hearted people will continue to care for and help Mr. Khoa's family in difficult times.
