Consider suspending operations of American International School after June 15 if conditions are not met

On the afternoon of May 31, at the regular socio-economic press conference in May, Mr. Ho Tan Minh - Chief of Office of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City - informed about the operation of the American International School Vietnam (AISVN).

According to Mr. Minh, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training did not assign enrollment targets to some schools because they did not meet the conditions for organizing activities.

Recently, the interdisciplinary team worked with representatives of AISVN School and investors and decided to suspend enrollment for first-level classes and no longer accept transfers to this school.

While working, the interdisciplinary team also required investors to meet all the conditions for organizing activities according to Clause 5, Article 27 of Decree 46 on organizing educational activities before June 15.

After June 15, if the American International Primary, Middle and High School does not meet these conditions, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training will advise the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to decide to suspend educational activities.

At the meeting on the socio-economic situation in May and the first 5 months of the year, also held on the afternoon of May 31, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Phan Van Mai requested the City Department of Education and Training to make an appropriate decision on whether this school should exist or not.

"Don't wait until the school is no longer qualified to operate, we suspend its operations but parents say there is no place for their children to register, then we will create frustration for the parents," said Mr. Mai.

In addition, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training will review and promptly report on the operations of international and private schools in the city for general guidance.

Conditions for permission to conduct educational activities in Clause 5 and Clause 6, Article 27 of Decree 46/2017/ND-CP are as follows:

There is a sufficient number of teachers and managers according to the structure of teacher types, ensuring the implementation of educational programs and organization of educational activities.

Have sufficient financial resources as prescribed to ensure the maintenance and development of educational activities.

To facilitate investors and ensure the rights of students, during the suspension period (expected 12 months), if the cause of the suspension is resolved, a decision will be sought to allow the school to resume educational activities.
