According to VGC , Microsoft has announced that the company will be shutting down the Xbox 360 Store next year. In a new post on the official Xbox Wire blog, the company said that the ability to purchase new games, DLC, and other entertainment content from the Xbox 360 Store will end on July 29, 2024.
This move will directly impact the ability to purchase content directly through the Xbox 360 console, as well as the ability to purchase content from the Xbox 360 Marketplace website. However, the ability to purchase backward compatible Xbox 360 games and DLC on the Xbox One or Xbox Series X/S stores will not be affected.
Xbox 360 Store to close next year
Microsoft has stressed that while the Xbox 360 Store will be closing next year, players who use their Xbox 360 consoles after that point will still be able to access all of their Xbox 360 games and DLC that they have previously purchased. Even if a player deletes a game they have purchased, they will still be able to re-download it.
Players can still play these games online (as long as their online servers are still supported by the publisher) and can still save their game progress to the cloud.
Additionally, Microsoft pointed out that the Microsoft Movies & TV app will no longer work on Xbox 360 on July 29, 2024, meaning that movies and TV shows purchased through the service will no longer be available to watch on Xbox 360 consoles. However, these entertainment contents will remain part of users' libraries and can be viewed on the Microsoft Movies & TV app on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
While hundreds of backward compatible Xbox 360 games will remain available on the Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S stores, the shutdown will still affect a number of digital Xbox 360 games that don't support play on the new systems, making them disappear forever. More than 220 digital Xbox 360 games are expected to be removed.
